I'm too cheap to shell out $11 a month for caller ID, so I screen my calls using my answering machine.

Every damn day I get at least 3 or 4 calls with no message.

Bastards.

How many rings is your machine set to before it answers. Set it to at least five rings. Telmarketing mass-dialer system will stop at 3 rings and are very good at detecting whether they are connected to a human or an answering maching or VoiceMail box.

Mass Dialers for Collections calls will typically give up on eight rings.

Machine is set for 4 rings. I'm on the DNC list, so I rarely get telemarketer calls.

Main reason we don't answer the phone is that her aunt and grandmother love to bug the shit out of everyone in the family.

One of my (former) buddies used to never pick up the phone, drove me nutz, as soon as it picked up I'd start whacking the mouth piece of my phone againt the edge of a desk, trained him to answer the phone pretty quick.
