What is it with people and DVD's/CD's?  Why do they find it so damn hard to not get their greasy fingerprints all over discs?  What is so hard about not using a disc as a test surface for sandpaper?

I've been checking out DVD's from the library this week for...umm...personal viewing.  Of the 23 I've checked out, 3 of them have been unreadable due to scratches and huge blotches of fingerprints.  One looked like someone rubbed Crisco all over it.

And this isn't limited to the library.  The local video store has some discs that look like someone used them as coasters on a concrete floor.  At least the video store has the decency to clean the fingerprints after each rental.

It just boggles my mind.  I've got CD's that are 15 years old and only have a few faint scratches.
