All righty then. Since my last lame ass post got a Dupe +10000 and IBTL and all that other bad stuff, here is a short video I made myself yesterday. I got to take the old MG34 out for a test run. The MP5 is a Vollmer conversion and runs great. The 34 runs well most of the time but I had a few belts that it just did not like at all. It was usually 100% or 0% and not much in between. Romanian ammo. |
I have only put a couple of thousand rounds through the gun. When I first got it, it was sort of a dog. The ejector plate was wasted and the cams were worn. I sent it off and had a unissued ejector plate and cams installed. Yesterday was the first test run since I got it back. I cleaned the barrel with hot water and soap for the corrosive ammo and then used regular cleaning stuff as with any firearm. The booster cone and flashhider are a real pain as the carbon build up gets very bad. I have them soaking now. The barrels will last a very long time unless really abused. This one shows no sign of wearing out. 34's have a lot of springs and can be finicky to get running. I had a bunch of extra parts but did not have to use any. Hope this answers a few questions. |

I can understand wheres hes coming from. This guy is showing us his MG34 which is friggin sweet, and hes obviously put a lot of time and effort into it, and then you say "thats nothing". Not saying enybody's right or wrong, I can just see where hes coming from. ETA: that is a sweet machine gun and a nice piece of history. Take care of it! |
How much did the T&E Tripod cost? |
Brasspile, the tripod is an original 1939 dated Lafette that I paid about $900 for a couple of years ago. It is not a converted H&K tripod, but is a WWII original. This one had been repainted at some point in time, which is a shame. Ones with original paint are hard to find. I have two MGZ optical sights for it, and 5 MGz40 sights. I also have a video clip showing the tripod, but I have to edit out some dead time. If I can figure out how to do that, I'll post it. |

You fail because you are weak. On a serious note, why does everyone have them? Just how useful are they for shooting? I've never seen them used in combat footage or stills, just pictures of guys target shooting. I guess it makes a convenient portable benchrest? |
If you look at enough WWII documentarys and pictures you will see a lot of Lafettes in action. With the 4x MGz sight they add about 1000meters to the maximum range. I did shoot some from the bipod, but we were shooting at a small rise and did not want to put too many rounds downrange and risk hitting a cow (or something worse). |

So you can pre-zero on several targets, and move between them using the markings. Yeah, during wartime, but still cool as hell, and worth the price, just for the cool factor! |
Even give thought to having the booster and flashhider teflon coated? Would make cleaing MUCH easier as the carbon would all but wipe off. |
