So I went to my local Fun Store and hefted the midsized Springfield XD-9 (I figure it's time for me to come in from the cold and get myself a 9mm)... I was impressed. It felt great in my hand. I like the grip safety and the integral light rail, and overall the feel was good. Trigger was a big heavy. What do I need to know about XD-9s? How much are mags? What kind of custom work can I do on it? (e.g. sights (although the stock ones looked decent), lighten trigger, etc) What do I need to look out for (any problems with the series) BTW I was going there to look at SIGs but they apparently have undergone a pretty big price increase. And they didn't even have the one I wanted to price out (228) TIA. jim |

I relaced the plastic guide rod with a steel one. See teh HS2000.com website (I think that's it) Hicaps are availabel from Springfield. No problems with my XD40 so far. Think SA does a trigger job. Sights are OK - but I think I'm gonna replace them without the 3 dot config. Preference thing. Has replaced my Sig 226 .40 for my IDPA gun. Very impressed. |

Went shooting last week with some friends. One guy had an XD-9 in 9. I LOVE it. It's light, accurate, and sexy! I will be getting one soon. Compared to my 1911 it was so light it was a featherweight! Any comments on how reliable XD-9s are? Any LEOs carry them as duty weapons? |
|
I've got an XD40 - I LOVE IT. Picked up a set of AmeriGlo night sights, installed them myself and it shoots dead on the money. There's plenty of aftermarket goodies. You want to know a lot - go check out XD Talk Good luck! cm |

These guns feel absolutely perfect in your hand don't they? I have gone in the fun store three time to buy an XD9 and all three times I came out with something else (S&W Sigma, Kahr PM9 and a Para CCW) because I listened to someone else. Next time I go in the XD9 is coming home with me |
I've put close to 1000 rounds of mostly Wolf through mine with only one hiccup that was caused by a defective round. Very reliable, and very easy to clean too. I know many departments won't allow the stock XD as a duty weapon because it doesn't have a 300 lb trigger pull that seems to be all the rage with PD legal departments. There are probably "duty trigger" mods that can increase the weight to an "acceptable" level though. |
They do at that - First thought in my head was "the Croats have done some ergonomic research!" |

XD-9 here. Rugged, 100% reliable. It the fastest on target and quickest followup shooter I have in the collection. Feels just as good in my hand as my P99 (and that's saying a lot). Mags are cheap (less than 20 bucks). Takes Sig nightsights so lots of choices. It may be the first current production handgun I own that I actually get another one as I'm *very* interested in the 45GAP model (we'll see if SA gets approval for it in California). The only reservation I have about mine is the quality of the slide finish. Compared to my USP45 and Walther P99 it's not that great. Will probably go with a stainless slide next time around. One of the best bangs for the buck going. |

i like it my XD-9, no complaints about the trigger and I own a SA 1911. Hasn't jammed on me yet. My only complaint is lack of aftermarket parts like night sights. I can never find them in stock or they say to use the SIG night sites but I keep hearing they don't exactly fit? |
My HS2000 is the best $269 I ever spent...it's been very reliable, and I've got thousdands of round through it with no trouble. And those XD-40 mags hold 15 rounds of 9mm |
The lo-cap 40's - the Normal (aka - no ban 12 rd 40's) hold 17 9mm - just need to give a little lovin squeeze to the lips. Otherwise you get a nice fountain of rounds into the air I paid 30 each for my mags at Gander Mountain (I know - no one else locally had the 12 rounders at the time though) |
It was beginning to rust right where the rear sight met the slide. A toothbrush and a squirt of Sheath was all that was needed. Still - this was a brand new gun. |
Agreed! ------ Thanks for all the responses guys. I am seriously considering an XD9 now! I would have considered the XD40 - I like the power advantage (perceived or not Why did I type all that? Guilty conscience probably... |
Changing a recoil spring is one thing. Going to a polymer pistol in another. Hi-powers rule. Every time I decide I really like my 1911's, I get out a hi-power (either caliber) and immediately am reminded that yes, a better design exists. One of these days, somebody is gonna blend the best aspects of both of these pistols into one - and make a fortune. |
There's the Hi-Power too... There are a lot of choices out there in 9 alone. Some I reject summarily for whatever reason (political or mechanical), leaving a still-large pool of remainders. CZ, Springfield, SIG, and the Hi-Power (and others, 1911 pattern guns in 9mm, and probably others I haven't thought of). Perhaps I should look into that one as well - I've read good things about them. Although the magazine disconnector thing bothers me... I'm on the fence on the Hi-Power for now. |

I love mine, almost 4,000 rounds through. Only prob. I had was an extractor chipping. Their customer service was excellent, I just had them send me a new one, although they offered to replace the part themselves, free of charge. Some of the earlier models had rust issues, but I haven't had any problems, and haven't heard of any others out of the newer guns. |
The Croats designed the XD9? Or am I missing something... EDIT: Nevermind, I found the info on the HS2000. Cool. Jim |
Yeah, actually prior to Springfield picking up the line, the Croats sold the guns as "HS2000" or something like that, for some ridiculously cheap price. In fact on the XD-9 I held, the Springfield Armory logo on the slide has "CROATIA" across the bottom. Edit: dang you guys are fast! |
yep, I believe in the deal is that SA will distribute them but SA is also responsible for the quality control and marketing |

I've only rented an XD40 once. Felt great from the 100 round range reloads I put through it. Found it very comfortable and was suprised how well I shot it considering it was my first time with the pistol. I have heard (from XD owners H2000 Talk at the finish is not quite up to snuff. Either an XD or a CZ P01 will become my next nightstand gun. If they had the P01 in .40 it wouldn't even be a contest though. Ofcourse I want both anyway.

subcompact 9mm ... bitone service 40...... and service .357sig guy checkin in here ![]() I carry either the subcompact 9mm or the full sized .357sig everyday, which ever one i decide to carry that day. I have 2 of comp-tac's C-T.A.C. holsters... I wear dress clothes everyday so i have to worries of it being spotted.. I have fired 1k + throught 9mm no problems about 500 rounds throught the 40 a couple FTF same 500 through .357 sig no problems, except that i need to find a cheaper source for FMJ and protection loads.. the last time I bought HP's it was $30 bucks for box Mr Cruze |

Here's a question... I've been doing some snooping around the HS2000talk website and it seems that you can buy replacement barrels to change caliber...? Question... If I buy a .40 can I buy a 9mm barrel and not sacrifice reliability? Or is there more to it than that? TIA |
.40 S&W and 9mm use a different diameter rim. You cannot just swap barrels. You can turn a .40 into a .357 SIG with just a barrel swap. |
Got it, thanks. |
