What's the best way to remove the carpet tack strips?  I've thought about just using a crowbar, hammering it under and lifting.

There's gotta be a better way, though.

Not that I've ever seen - just go for the nails that held it down and peel away!

Pry them up with a wonder bar.

Do yourself a favor. Get a long box and throw the strips into it as you remove them. You don't have to handle them twice that way, and you will get stuck enough times before you are done.

I removed carpet many times. There were a few that were reluctant. However with the proper coaxing. Adequate shaving cream a sharp razor, and aloe lotion afterwards, women do like it.

The picture looks like one of the 5" mini bars that bend like putty.  They are useless.

Just rip off the tack strip with a 18" wonder bar or claw hammer or both.  So what if it leaves a crater sometimes, the tile thinset will fill it in.  Git to it!

I just posted the first pry bar pic I found in google.

Just make sure you get the bar under the nail in the strip or it breaks off making it a pain in the ass to get out.

But what will get the tack strips up without damaging the floor.  I may want to restore my hardwood floors in the future.  Then again, once I look at the floor, I may just put carpet back down.

I have a Wonder Bar but when trying to be gental I have a moulding prybar.  It has a sharper end and does not bang up the floor that bad.

P.S. got it at Lowes

If you're adding tile then the Hard wood is a moot point.  Thinset and Tile glue don't come off hrdwood floors.

If yo want to have the hardwood available in the future - go with a floating wood laminate floor like Pergo.

Cats Paw also is Good.

Gasoline in a sprayer will work.

Wonder bar is great but you will be on your knees a lot,to avoid the on your knees trip!

You can use a well used long handled shovel just pry the nails up with an upward pop by pushing the handle down(just like you would do to remove roofing nails after a tear off)!
