First off calm down you are learning so take it easy. Second your men want to follow and do well they are trusting you because you know your shit. Give a order with balls. first 3 para's of the operation order are the most important, when you hit execution walk them thru the operation with some sort of visual. Many grunts dont understand anything till you show them. Good luck if you have a good idea and go for it dont half ass it, just have a reason for your decision. |
No they will give me an oporder then i break it down to squad level then i issue warno, oporder and get the job done. |

Remember your TLPs, your take charge minute - introduce yourself, select your TL's, give your TL's their team's sector of security, select your recorder, then go to it. What i do is have the recorder (someone you trust not to F things up...) take down vital info like times, points, and required reports. After that, i have him plot the points and give me a distance/direction while i give a warno to the TL's and write the OPORD. Things that look good on your eval - taking charge right away, always having a question at the end of the OPORD for your evaluator (sir, do you have any more specific intel on the opfor we're facing --and then asking the same question right before you LD, for example), making sure you do a brief-back on your squad after you've given the OPORD, and then conducting rehearsals before you LD, and not flinching when they give you a FRAGO that completely changes your mission, distance, and direction right after you LD. But you already knew this, and have trained for it...good luck. |

to add, the situation is always the same: elements of the Kaukatan Army 81st rifle reg.... Request higher to let the 'reserve' squads on either side of you pull security while you conduct rehearsals. Asking for 'ghost' security will get your request shot down immediately, as I saw... |
Situational Training Exercise basically a run through squad movement live fire deal. loads O fun ![]()

No matter how well you plan it all out, its likely to fall apart. Happens all the time out here. Just think fast and don't hesitate. Nothing worse than a squad leader for leave his men exposed while he tries to figure out what to do because his "range game" plan didn't work out. Happened to me last time in the field... |
DOH my platoon had priority of mortars but i forgot to request them! Probably wouldn't have gotten them considering they wanted to see a battle drill not a call for fire. Well I conducted a squad attack of a bunker, we moved to the Objective, and i spotted the opfor from a hill i then moved my squad down to a draw and established a ORP, then i set A team to suppress while i manuevered Bravo team to the right flank, we high crawled thru the wood line and got in position when A team began to suppress, although it was a LONG high crawl it was well worth it cause they had no idea we were on there ass. Plus we popped smoke so they couldn't see the grenadier sneak up on them. it worked out ok A team leader could have done a better job of suppressing and he actually was firing to the right of the bunker ![]() damn i am tired have been up since 0400 Saturday morning, and patrolled all night till 0800 this morning with a couple cat naps |

Don't insist on using FASCAM unless you know you have it (sorry, inside joke)..... Always end your OPORD by stating "What are your questions" not by asking "do you have any questions?"....advice from our high speed low drag light infantry training officer, Captain Ronald White, USA. Best officer, trainer and leader I ever saw... Go over your shit, have confidence, be cool, remember to delegate, speak with authority, and most of all HAVE FUN....This shit was fun, I always approached it like that, and always did pretty well.... Aw, shit...too late...oh well, sounds like you did OK. Hope you had fun....readin' it makes me wish I was still doing shit like that. Better than sitting in our Monday morning meeting talking about billability and profits and bullshit...kinda like Col. Kilgore said..."This war is gonna end some day..." |
