I picked up a brand new M101 weapon light on Egay
and it comes with a rail adapter.
The light will attach to the rails on my Glock G20 without the adapter but won't lock in place and can be pulled off without pushing any hardware.
Their adapter has rails and attaches to my trigger guard. It lcoks onto the rail adapter but it seems kind of low. Is this normal?

sorry, but either way, I think it's heinously large for mounting on a pistol.

Heinously large is about right. Glock 20's aren't small, so that light has got to be huge.

Looks to me like your mount isn't pushed all the way back... seems like there is some room in the rear that is about the same as the room in the front. Maybe the locking mechansim hasn't been engaged yet?

Looks about right to me. I've got a P111D on my Glock

Somebody at Surefire dosen't think it's too big. A big light absorbs the recoil and gives them a suntan.
I'm strictly gonna be using it for the home since it would be kinda hard to conceal
