Here is my problem.

2003 Ford Focus the trunk won't close and the damn latching mechanism is an electric motor.   It has buttons to open the trunk.

When I push the buttons I can hear the motor attempting to unlock the trunk but it almost sounds like it is stuck, even though it sounds that way it still opens the trunk.

This afternoon I opened the trunk and now the damned thing won't close again.  Any suggestions on how to fix it.  Does it sound like a striker problem or just that the motor that controls the latching is shot.  What do you guys think?

Any suggestions on where to get one of these motors?

Check the orientation of the latch pieces. If they didn't fully open or close just once, they could have moved. If it can't close, look and see if the two pieces of metal that form the latch are pushed together or not.

Your latch may or may not look like this, but make sure if the trunk is open, that the metal latch like the one on the right is open.
