Try to update your virus definitions (or download the executable) and boot into safe mode.  Run the executable if you couldn't run live update.

Do a complete scan of your system and delete any virii it finds (including any it sticks in quarantine).  Then boot into Windows normally.  If you have WinME or WinXP, disable SystemRestore and do another complete scan.  You can supplement with Avast! which is OK and free, F-Prot is another one I've always had good luck with.  McAfee has a free online thing too.

While you're at it, scan for spyware with AdAware and Spybot (I also like using Microsoft's new antispyware beta, but I usually uninstall it after running the scan).  There's other spyware tools you can use like HijackThis, but that's more advanced.

Make sure you enable SystemRestore when you're all done...

How doI download the executable when it is blocking symantec site all together. It also blocks Live Update. AVAST  didn't find anything . i'll try the other sites.
