Would a female Shep be less aggressive than a male?
I have never owned a female dog, figured one Bitch in the house was enough!
I'm asking because I had to put my old Max down (the Black Shep whose pic has been on here)
and need another one. Tough thing to do, but life must go on.
Primary function of the Shep will be Family and Security.
Dog will be kept in the house.
As Always, thanks. will check in later.

Here's your German Shepherd answer:

Woof woof woof woof. Arf arf arf. Woof woof.

i trained k9's for 10 years...

personally..i would go for a male then neuter around 2-3y/o, IF there were any issues about the dog being too much of a man...for ya.

i have had several large, intact males in my house and they were never an issue.
proper socialization and OB work is the key to the GSD.

Dog was never too much for me.
Very gentle with 10  y\o daughter and any one he knew.
Definitely followed the social order of the "pack."
Thanks.

Muddydog has it right, get a male for protection. Most females don't have the proper drives to do good bite work, i.e they may bite a sleeve but not a man on the street.

I would look at a Leerburg Kennel's dog, they are a good bloodline.

If its a family dog and to be used for family protection get a female.  If you are going to use it in a security roll in where the dog may be used to initiate a confrontation or take down get a male.  Male dogs in general are more aggressive  and cause over 80% of dog bites reported each year.  Either would protect you and your own from any hostile agressors without hesitation.

It's hard to generalize about dogs.  I had the perfect one first and she died suddenly last year.  The new one looks similar but about the only thing she has in common are four legs and a tail.

This one loves to BITE.

They're only as aggressive as you train them to be. Mine is as gentle as could be, loves playing with kids, and only goes off when someone approaches the house at night, or strange noises are heard.
Pretty much perfect.

Being a lot of German Shepherds are imbred, they do get a little crazy and agressive. I had a female full-blooded that we had to get ride of being she would go crazy for no reason and attack my little dog or me.
