Finally, after ten long days, I'm picking up my FN Five-seveN today  I give this three dancing bananas.

According to some of the sources i've found, the SS196 (Civvy ammo) shoots at a decreased velocity of like 1400-1600 fps, compared to the 2100 for SS190(AP) and around 2000 for the SS192(JHP, now banned from importation). Ballistic tests for the SS190 showed penetration into ballistic gelatin of around 6 inches after going through Kevlar, PASGT helmet, etc. I have yet to find any info on what type of terminal performance the SS192 has. I'm very curious however, and once I get some time I would like to head to the range and run some tests. I've heard that when using the SS196, the Five-seveN isn't anything more than the equivalent to a .22 magnum or hornet. I hope this is not the case with the SS192, given the cost of the firearm. |
