I'm drinking my morning cup of coffee and watching Fox News.  In between showing the 15-24 hours wait to see the Pope's body they did a bit about all the sharks off the coast of Florida.

I've never seen so many sharks in one spot.  It was pretty cool, anybody else catch it?

I went to Ft. Lauderdale last week to visit my grandparents. The TV news had a big segment on the sharks off the beaches. It was pretty cool to see really. Some of the sharks were coming right up to the edge of the water.

Must be like when humans go on a road trip...you stop at the rest stop to grab snacks.

Sharks grab a kid off the beach.

just a snack.

Sharks are very misunderstood.

The news said the sharks were "spinners" and some other smaller species that roam the coasts looking for bait fish to take a bite of. It also said they will bite a hand or foot because the way hands and feet splash like smaller fish.

Black tips , white tips and some Bull sharks.

It's the Bull sharks you need to watch out for.

Danger to Humans
According to the International Shark Attack File (ISAF) bull sharks are historically responsible for at least 69 unprovoked attacks on humans around the world, 17 of which resulted in fatality. In reality this species is likely responsible for many more, and has been considered by many experts to be the most dangerous shark in the world. It's large size, occurrence in freshwater bodies, and greater abundance in close proximity to numerous human populations in the tropics makes it more of a potential threat than either the white shark or tiger shark.

and the notorious Bull Shark (Carcharhinus leucas), all of which penetrate far up freshwater rivers - the Bull Shark has been recorded some 2,600 miles (4,200 kilometres) from the mouth of the Amazon River - and some even complete their life cycles in freshwater.

It was like that when I lived there. If you flew out of Ft. Lauderdale airport you could see 30+ sharks less than 50 feet off the beach. It was enough to keep me from swimming.

NO WAY, sharks in the ocean?????? All the recent news hype about that has pissed me off. Remember, whether you see them or not they're ALWAYS there, afterall it is their territory.

They're a couple of weeks late for spring break down here.  Must've gotten their dates wrong.

As a side note, this is exactly why this white boy stays on the land.  I prefer to be at the top of the food chain.  Out there, you're just another link....

Right...and what only gets occasional news coverage here is when sharks are NOT migrating and a news chopper flies over the beach on a crowded day, and films a half dozen large ones less than 100 yards from shore.

Of course the swimmers at eye level with the ocean can't see shit....but, they're there...whether you see'em or not.

Most just are not dangerous though.

Everytime I've flown along Pensacola Beach through Destin Beach, I've seen a couple sharks in the water. They tend to hang around the 2nd or 3rd sandbar. I saw one feeding on something at the surface one day, about 50 yds from shore. It was awesome. I then took note to not ditch my plane in the water.

There are a great number of bull sharks in Tampa Bay and the ajoining waters.

Two years ago I was wade fishing the "Bulk Heads" south of the shipping channel in waist deep water when I was  rubbed by a solid 10 footer.   I nearly shit myself.

I think it was a Bull Shark that was attacking people in New Jersey back in 1914.

I've attacked twice by sharks after my fish. I have a picture somewhere of me holding up a hog snapper that was bit in half on my stringer.

I hate sharks.
