Just curious as to how many fellow LDS are out there on arfcom. Considering that this thread has a very high probability of turning into a Anti-Mormon thread, please refrain from being baited into theological debates. I'm just want to know how many out there share both my religion and my fondness for firearms. edited for spelling (which still probably sucks) |
FUCKSIT TO YA?... WHO CARES WHAT SOMEBODY'S RELIGION IS AS LONG AS THEY AIN'T PROSTELIZING YOUR ASS? SO, AS I AWAIT THE INEVITABLE PHONE CALL FROM THE TELEMITRY UNIT OF THE LOCAL HOSPITAL TELLING ME TO COME BACK TO THE HOSPITAL , MY FATHER IS DEAD.....BY WHICH DEVINE INSPIRATION DO YOU PROFESS TO SUBSCRIBE TO THAT WOULD CAUSE YOU TO QUESTION ANOTHER MONKEYS' RELEGIOUS BELIEFS? HOOOOOAHHHH! |
Well, yes and no. I'm not from Utah originaly, I'm here for school. I also served my mission in Utah. The Church is much more than just the religion here. There is what I call "Mormon Culture." A lot of it comes from the nature of how the state was settled. Sometimes members of the Church who've grown up in it here in Utah forget what it's about and treat it like a social club and sometimes are really rude and unkind to those who are not a member of that club. On that same note, there are far more members of the Church here that are absolutely wonderful God fearing people. 99% of the success I had as a missionary was due to members of the Church that lived their religion and set wonderful examples of love and kindness for those investigating the Church. Fact, is, people are just people, some are jerks, some are wonderful, and everyone has flaws. But hey, that's why I go to Church, so I can get a little help in being a better person. |
ID actually has a higher percentage of mormons than UT does. But no. As with every religion or group, there are always the ass holes that give bad impressions. Unfortunately they are usually the ones most noticed and people tend to judge the whole by the actions of the few. By the way I'm LDS. |
So is this what happens when you cannonball Kool-Aid? |
Not a Mormon but I have found most Mormons to be very decent and good. The Mormon Church is just down the street so we get Mormon missionaries coming by all the time, they get to be regulars. I usually let them in on the understanding I am a confirmed Catholic-Protestant and they are wasting their time if they want to convert me. All seem to be good, polite, and well mannered kids and tolerate it well when my basset hound crawls up in their laps. I like the vast majority of Mormons I have know. |
I grew up here, lived in other states, moved back here. It's the same as any other religion. |
I'm sorry to hear about your father. I good friend of mine just passed away unexpectedly a few weeks ago. I attribute a lot of how I handled his death to my beliefs. I know it sounds stupid, and I do not mean to be patronizing or condescending or offensive in anyway whatsoever pcsutton, but that's the reason I spent two years out knocking on doors of people who didn't want to have anything to do with me; 2 years just for the slight chance that I may run into someone who is interested, someone with whome I'd be able to share what I've cherished and found peace through in my life. |
As I sit herer awaiting the inevitable telephone call from the telemitry unit of the hospital: I am prompted to ask you a couple of questions. 1, DO you feel 'religously 'shat upon''?. 2. Don't you know the operative 3 words? 3. Why do YOU, by literal context of our use of the word "probability", insure your being percieved as a bigot? Oh, the "operative 3 words" are, "serve the lord". PAX |
| I'm LDS. Lots of people love to make negative comments about the church, but you can tell from what they say that they know nothing about it. Thankfully, there are baptisms for the dead so the morons on this side of the veil get a 2nd chance on the other side... |
You mean you dig up corpses and baptise them?
|
Not quite. |
You may be LDS but stuff like that does nothing to help the Church. |
Agreed. |
IT DOES NOT SOUND STUPID! Please do not not understand. LOL. If one asks one, " hay, man, are you good wif your religion?", might that be invasive enough? The furtherance of additional questions would suggest a predisition of an "holyer than thou mindset". Prostilitizing annoys the pig....something about "if you annoy the pig: you get fat bacon." |
+1 |
You know we come back as zombies don't you? However, we don't go after brains, instead we pile zuchini and loads of fresh baked bread on your door step. |
The Church has no control over the names that are submitted for temple work to be done. I researched that claim once and couldn't come up with a positive or negative answer to whether that is true or not though. |
No control? That is just silly. You're telling me that they can't say "no" to the submittals? Give me a break, you're brainwashed like the rest of them. Pale Lay Ale! |
If you believe in what the work is supposed to do, then it is not for anyone here on earth to decide if the person is worthy or not. I don't know the exact screening process the names go through for verification, but with millions of names being submitted yearly, they have trouble enough verifying the names and dates that go along with the submissions. |
Geez...you would have gone nuts then over "news" story here about 2 months ago about an 80 year old man who got junk mail from the Army. "They must be really desperate if they want me to enlist."
|
If God wants them to be Mormons, then he'll give them the chance when they die. They don't need a bunch of 12 and 13 year olds taking Saturday trips to the temple to baptize them. This practice is disturbing, there is no 2 ways about it. |
