implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/demo/measureyourattitudes.html It's a series of quizzes in Flash format which supposedly determine whether you have subconscious prejudices. It reminds me of the quiz which has color names in different colors... hard to describe, but if you've seen it, you probably know what I mean.

How do I know I am an arfcommer?
I'm guessing I have "a slight automatic association between European American and Weapons" because most of the people I see with weapons are white. ETA: The only X I got was when I indicated that the maglite was a weapon. ![]() |

I took the weapons test. It says that I show a strong association between African Americans and weapons. I really don't know how they got thta result from my actual test results. Maybe from the questions answered after the test. Ya' know, where they ask if you are a white conservative, etc. But not the picture test. No way. |

Yeah. I got the Maglite wrong, too. My results on the tests I took: - Your data suggest little or no automatic preference for White relative to Black - Your data suggest a moderate automatic preference for Bush relative to Kerry - Your data suggest a moderate automatic association between African American and Weapons - Your data suggest a moderate automatic preference for GAY PEOPLE relative to STRAIGHT PEOPLE I blame my association with TRG for the last one. |
I'm pretty sure it has to do with the speed that you press the keys. If you are quicker pressing the keys when black/weapon, white/harmless are the choices, as opposed to when white/weapon, black/harmless are the choices, that indicates that you more readily associate blacks with weapons. There's a psychology test I referenced in my first post about this: www-atdp.berkeley.edu/1997/courses/1655/psychproj.html I'm pretty sure the Association Tests are the same principle. What is more congruous to the mind allows you to make your selections quicker. |
Well it could have something to do with me being a bit addled. Or living so close to Oakland. Oh, and Gloftoe, someone had to do it! |
Yeah, Harvard did!!! ![]() A big red X is not the usual sound you get when selecting the MagLite ![]() This test is horse hockey... My results: "Your data suggest a slight automatic association between European American and Weapons" Ok, I accept that on blind faith since they are Harvard and all... Until I get to this bullshit...
Now, that may be a legitimate statement, but it's use in this particular forum by this particular group shows a severe bias, in my estimation.

People who don't recognize the Maglite as a weapon have a 53% higher chance of receiving cranial contusions in an encounter with short-tempered policemen than people who do recognize the Maglite as a weapon. They don't know enough to shut up or duck. |
