The "Asian" thread reminded me of something. I work in a smallish, mall bookstore. One day, an African-American girl and a caucasian girl walk up to me and ask: Where da hood books be at? Me: [blink] Hood books? Black chick: Y'know... the hood books. (as though emphasising it would make it any clearer) White chick: The African-American books. Me:Ohhhhhh (as the light dawns). They're in with the rest of fiction. Is there a particular author you're looking for? Them: (looking disappointed) Don't know any names. What I really want to say: They're in with the rest of fiction. We don't segregate. Whether or not we have an African-American fiction section is the number 2 question asked (right after "Do you work here?" to which, I swear, I will one day reply with "No. I'm wearing this apron with the name tag, these stupid buttons and carrying 15 copies of The Da Vinci Code because I think it's cool). |

The next time you go to a book store, tell a book seller that you're looking for a book but you don't know the title, the author, the subject, or about when it was published but it has a blue cover. Come back and tell me what happens. |
Me,yea, you know,the one with the blue cover.Of course I dont know the title or who wrote it,its not like I work here Let me speak to your manager.I have been working with the same company repairing office equipement for going on 13yrs now.Let me tell you,there isnt anyone more pissed off that someone whos copier/printer/fax is broken,or they think it is broke
