| I heard a rumor that guns from walmart, even if they are made by a reputable manufacturer have cheaper parts in the guns than if you bought the same model elsewhere. This sounds like a huge load of BS to me, probably started by someone who owns a gun store. Does anyone know for sure? |
|
That sounds rediculous. Wouldn't that ruin the credibility of the manufacturer? I mea, let's say you but a 10/22 from Walmart and put on mag thru it. Then you sell it to someone on the EE never mentioning walmart. Now he puts a couple hundred rounds thru it and starts having probs. Now he's telling all his friends how Ruger makes crap, etc. |
|
This has been a rumour for years and has been discussed may times. The gun manufacturers deny that the guns are anything less than what everybody else sells. Walmart just buys in larger quantities which gets them better pricing. I tend to support the smaller local guy when I can. |
| from what I've heard wal-mart gets the stuff that isn't quite up to what QC is supposed to be. It's basically stuff that'll work fine, but not quite up to spec. Kinda like how all the RAM comes from like 2 companies, but it's different tiers of quality that goes to the different resellers. |
| I would think that Walmart wouldn't get the Winchesters and others with the best wood, given what they probably pay Winchester and others for their product. That said, the stuff I see in there looks decent, but I haven't seen a lot as not many stores in this area carry much for firearms. |
|
Bunk. Walmart purchases guns, ammo, goods, by the truckloads/warehouse-full, for their entire network. They are a huge corporation that commands the lowest wholesale prices. It is pure economics. Why not call Ruger/Remington/Savage, etc. and ask them if they sell seconds and cheap part guns to Wal-Mart? I have no particular love for wal-mart, but yooose guys are really reaching on this one..... ![]() If you are trusting what anyone who works in a gunstore tells you, then I got a special deal on a bridge in Brooklyn I would like to offer up.

Gun store horsesh*t. Wal-Mart does sometimes have special models done just for them they have done this several times with the 10/22. These Wal-Mart special models do have features that differ from standard models; sometime the Wal-Mart special models have premium features like a laminated stock. But there nothing sub-stardards about these guns. |
A serving spoon will suffice |
| The only problem I ever had besides the douche bags behind the counter who can't seem to remeber that mulletts are only good for cleaning floors with, was that my new England Firearms 12ga suffered a break min the stock. When I took it to Wal-Mart they told me to call New England Firearms for replacement or warranty repair. New england would not do it beacause of some BS loop hole they have Wlamart. So I fixed myself and sold it to my dad's new son. |
PICS! PICS! PICS! |
I'd hate to disagree, but I have to. I bought a Remington 870 combo with a 26" barrel and an 18" rifled deer barrel. It is NOT pretty. The finish is kinda crappy and miscolored on top of the receiver, but since it worked well, I haven't complained about it. The other rifles and shotguns I see aren't bad, but I certainly wouldn't call them top-tier either. No flames needed, these are just my observations at the local Supercenter. WIZZO |

Wal-Mart does (in some instances) get special-run stuff, like other big chain stores do--that you cannot buy from other sources. ...But I would seriously doubt that ANY US gun company would sell off factory seconds, unless the only problems with them were cosmetic. The liability cost of selling factory-firsts is outrageous enough as it is, no company in their collective right minds would sell defective guns. Especially to a major retailer chain. ~~~~~ |
Show a single manufacturer that has the capacity, the pocketbook, that is going to run two separate production lines for the same guns. |
|
"Alright you primitive screwheads, listen up. See this? This is my boomstick! It's a twelve gauge double barreled Remington, S-Mart's top-of-the-line. You can find this in the sporting goods department. That's right this sweet baby was made in Grand Rapids Michigan. Retails for about $109.95. It's got a walnut stock, cobalt blue steel and a hair trigger. That's right. Shop Smart. Shop S-mart. Ya got that?! Now I swear, the next one of you primates, even touches me... Ya! (BOOM) (BOOM) ![]() btw, I'm going to have to hoist the Jolly Roger on this one and call bull-shi'ite. Sounds like something they would say down at Dong's Sporting Goods, Tulsa. |
Uh… not two separate production lines but seperate runs. Sears was the king of special runs just for them same production line but a special run just for them. Wal-Mart generates enough volume to get whatever they want made, Wal-Mart goes to a manufacture and says we want XY and Z in your product the manufacture says yes here is the quote. There is NO DOUBT Ruger makes special runs of 10/22 models for Wal-Mart that ONLY Wal-Mart sells. There are several 10/22 models that have ONLY been sold at Wal-Mart. The 10/22s come off the normal production line but have features specific to Wal-Mart. The quality is the same as any other 10/22. |

EVERY time this dumbass story surfaces , I like to relate my experience ORDERING a Marlin 39A from WalMart . Joey , the sales guy , called a gun distributor and asked if they had any 39A's in stock . He did not identify himself as a WalMart employee until he actually placed the order . The gun was flawless and had the full factory warrenty . Why do we keep beating this horse ? |
| I have seen nothing that would convince me that Walmart gets factory seconds or sub par runs. they do tend to carry low end models that by design are lower grade finishes and more loose quality control. They do also carry some models that are exclusive to them (Weatherby Vanguards for a while were exclusive along with a couple 10/22 models like the 20" stainless sporter now). If you look at their tags often it will tell you which distributor they buy the item from (usually Lipsey's Bangers or Sports South, all large well known distributors). Their special order catalog last I saw was just a Sports South catalog with their prices in it. I work at a gun store and there are several guns Walmart sells for at or below dealer cost. They apparently get a volume discount (makes sense). So we just don't stock those items, we can't compete on price. We can beat them on service, selection and product knowledge but not price. I've even bought a few guns from them (found them on closeout for well below dealer cost). All of them worked just fine, no reason to believe they were lesser quality. |

Walmart carries a lot of "entry model" or "base model" guns with low-grade finishes and such, but you can get these elsewhere and they will be the same. When Walmart occasionally has a custom configuration made, they are of equal quality to a relatively similar catalog model. Sometimes, they spec higher-grade parts. Either way, they definitely aren't "seconds." -Troy |
The 22" stainless 10/22 was a wallymart only model , not sure if it still is , but I've never seen it elsewhere . |

I picked up the $100 Savage .22 boltgun with cheezy scope at WW. Had a feed issue, contacted Savage, had new parts here in a few days. The finish is fine. The little bugger is surprisingly accurate too, and it loves Aguila subsonic HP. Savage at least doesn't have an "issue" with servicing Wallyworld guns, and you can buy them all day for a sensible chunk under MSRP. The old Montgomery Ward catalog used to sell more basic versions of popular firearms under their own name (either M-W or Ward's Western Field). They were made by the original producer, but often with crappier stocks, sights, and small parts. I was under the impression that wasn't a common practice anywhere anymore though. My dad's first gun was a Western Field tubefed semi .22, though I can't remember the model or what it was based on now. ETA- The Savage was purchased in a PA walmart actually.. NJ Walmarts sell neither guns nor ammo. NICS and paperwork took forever and a day though. |
The stupidity and false info on this thread is amazing. Do any of you Wal Mart and firearms "experts" have any proof or are you just pulling shit out of your asses?
