This is the ship that ran aground last week. I've got some pretty good pic's of it in a PRK hometown post. Anyone want a repeat show?

Just for general information, Irving Johnson was the owner/master/captain of the sailing vessel "Yankee" , the voyages of which were featured in the National Geographic Magazine.

Actually, there were 3 different  vessels with the name Yankee, from the 1930s 'til the '70s. The last one was built to allow it to use the barge canal network in Europe yet still be bluewater capable..

Looks like the SV Irving Johnson would have met with it's namesakes approval. Was it saved/towed off the beach, or did she breakup in the surf?

Is that the Liberty ship that was docked off the pier in San Fran???

I took a tour of it - cool. Sad to hear, if that's the one.

Piece of Americana.

the owners rep/insurance person was on scene that day. they had lights and people there all night and until she was pulled off the sand. she stayed for a night in channel islands harbor, then went to ventura to be hauled and repaired. i'm really glad to see that she is going to make it. as a carpenter, i can appreciate the time and effort put into building her.
