I noticed that we have some EOD people on this board, and thought it'd be a good place for a question. When I was researching careers in the military, I noticed that only Ordnance was listed.

Is there any way to request EOD in the contract, or is it luck of the draw? From what I've heard, a lot of Ordnance duties are supply jobs.

Hope you are not scared of confined spaces.  That NBC bomb suit is a bitch.  Tried out for the BEAR program and didn't make the 100 yard fireman's carry in the suit.  Damn that thing sucked.

Nah, no claustrophobia here.

When I first enlisted in the Army I chose EOD, my mom freaked out. She absolutely flipped. I changed the MOS to settle her down a bit. I didn't tell her I changed it to 11B1P (airborne) till after I was shipping out.
She said Airborne duty to her was preferable to EOD.

I was 11C1P when I came in, well after basic.  Came in as 11X with Airborne option.  Decided I wanted to try EOD when I was at Knox after three years in.  Didn't make it past the suit test.  Mom thought I was nuts for even thinking about it.

Yeah, I get the feeling my parents won't be too happy about it, either.

BTW, what should I expect for the suit test? And what's the BEAR program?

I am going to tell you this for your own good.  If you smoke, quit now.  Quit now and start running and doing sit-ups.  Running is abs and abs is running.

Can do. Gotta take up running again, anyway. Anybody got the nitty-gritty of what EODs "actually" do? I've only read the official job descriptions.
