Ruger P90.

Very reliable, very solid.

Not the most accurate but will easily do the job.

Around $300 new.

springfield GI is a great value.  the armscorp 1911's are actually pretty well put together as well and come with lots of "go fast" goodies already installed.  the rock island armory(not rock river arms) ones arent bad either.  and dont get hung up on the "made in america" thing here since most of the Springfield parts are made in Brazil.

Springfield GI or Mil-Spec. I got my Mil-Spec for $340 (thx for $60 store credit).

+1 on this one. The "mil-spec" Springfield goes for around $399.00 at the shows. The Rock Island Aromory is around $360.00 but you can pick up here at the EE forum much cheaper. I bough a sub compact RIA here last week for $300.00 and one just sold here the other day in AZ for $250.00 Personally I'm not a ruger fan of their auto's, except the Mark II.

don't know if Systema's are still floating around. Picked up an aresenal refurb for under $300 a few years ago.

+1 for the springfield.

Affordable, and you can build it into what you really want, over time.

I have the Rock Island Armory .45.  It goes bang everytime.  The GI mags that I bought from ammoman didn't feed very good at first but after being loaded 10+ times they work fine.  When I bought this economy pistol I vowed to never shoot a higher quality .45 so that envy wouldn't make me regret it.

Maybe a CZ 97B?  I heard they are pretty good.

There is a norinco 1911 in the EE. $350 is not a bad deal thought you can find them cheaper if you look.

I would go with the SA milspec. IMHO, a great deal.

On the topic, are Auto Ordinance 1911's any good?

Those were one of the best firearm deals ever.

I picked up two of them for just under $300 each a few years back as well, and they were beautiful, refinished and functioned perfectly.
