AIDS could kill 80 million Africans by 2025 Infections may skyrocket if prevention efforts fail, says U.N. Radu Sigheti / Reuters file HIV-positive orphans pray before having a glass of milk at Nyumbani Hospice in Nairobi, Dec. 13. The Associated Press Updated: 8:35 p.m. ET March 3, 2005ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia - More than 80 million Africans may die from AIDS by 2025, the United Nations said in a report released Friday, and infections could soar to 90 million β or more than 10 percent of the continentβs population β if more isnβt done soon to fight the disease. advertisement Have our Top 20 newsletter delivered to your Inbox each week! More information. Β© 2005 Travelzoo Inc. More than 25 million Africans have been infected with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. UNAIDS estimated that nearly $200 billion is needed to save 16 million people from death and 43 million people from becoming infected, but donors have pledged nowhere near that amount. In its report, βAIDS in Africa,β the U.N. agency examines three potential scenarios for the continent in the next 20 years depending on the international communityβs response. Researchers determined that even with massive funding and better treatment, the number of Africans who will die from AIDS is likely to top 67 million in the next two decades. βWhat we do today will change the future,β concluded the report, drawn up by some of the worldβs leading experts on HIV and AIDS. βThese scenarios demonstrate that, while societies will have to deal with AIDS for some time to come, the extent of the epidemicβs impact will depend on the responses and investment now.β Click for related stories HIV infection rate among U.S. blacks doubles Drug combos could keep more babies HIV-free Scientists find clue to how HIV invades cells Three possible scenarios The three scenarios include a best-case situation, a middle-case and a doomsday scenario. They all warn that the worst of the epidemicβs impact is still to come. βThere is no single policy prescription that will change the outcome of the epidemic,β the report stated. βThe death toll will continue to rise no matter what is done.β Under the worst-case scenario, experts have plotted current policies and funding over the next two decades. βIt offers a disturbing window on the future death toll across the continent, with the cumulative number of people dying from AIDS increasing more than fourfold,β it says. βThe number of children orphaned by the epidemic will continue to rise beyond 2025.β While there is no cure for HIV or AIDS, anti-retroviral drugs can allow sufferers to live a normal life. Such drugs, though, are too expensive for most Africans, who live on less than a dollar a day and donβt have access to modern health care. Experts have said donorsβ money needs to be spent to train more health workers, develop better clinics and subsidize medications as well as promote more prevention programs. AIDS already has a devastating impact on Africa. UNAIDS has reported that life expectancy in nine countries has dropped to below 40 because of the disease. There are already 11 million orphans because of AIDS, while 6,500 people are dying each day. In 2004, 3.1 million Africans were newly infected, the agency said. βIf by 2025, millions of African people are still becoming infected with HIV each year, these scenarios suggest that it will not be because there was no choice,β the report said. βIt will be because, collectively, there was insufficient political will to change behavior at all levels, from the institution, to the community, to the individual, and halt the forces driving the AIDS epidemic in Africa.β Hundreds of experts and people living with the virus helped draw up the report. We don't need a cure to a 99% preventable disease. Too many other diseases need this money Tell them to quit fucking anything that moves or they die. They are having sex with babies now because they think having sex with a virgin cures aids. ![]() |
|
So we should give them drugs (very expensive drugs, btw) so they can continue to live and spread the disease. How will that help? Should every african be given free drugs because of their own behavoir? This seems like a problem that will work itself out in a few decades. Monomgomous sex, try it. You might like it. |

Business in sub-sahara Afrika and the UN as usual..."Give us more handouts". Any guesses as to just how much of that 200 Billion would actually make it to the research centers and "victims" even if it were to be given directly to these countries without the UN ripping off their standard 20% or so? Clue...Not very damned much. |
|
Hundreds of experts and people living with the virus helped draw up the report. The only thing worse than an expert is "hundreds of experts". Tell them to quit fucking anything that moves or they die. They are having sex with babies now because they think having sex with a virgin cures aids. All of those "experts" could just teach these people how to act. |

At the end of 2003, the CDC estimated that 405,926 persons were living with AIDS in the USA. Of these, * 36% were white * 42% were black * 20% were Hispanic * 2% were of other race/ethnicity. Of the adults and adolescents with AIDS, 77% were men. Of these men, * 58% were men who had sex with men * 22% were injection drug users (IDU) * 11% were exposed through heterosexual contact * 8% were both MSM and IDU. Of the 88,815 adult and adolescent women with AIDS, * 63% were exposed through heterosexual contact * 35% were exposed through injection drug use. Black people and Hispanics have been disproportionately affected since the early years of the epidemic. In absolute numbers, blacks have outnumbered whites in new AIDS diagnoses and deaths since 1996, and in the number of people living with AIDS since 1998. We dump a huge amount of money into a problem that has a simple solution even when statistics show that there are more deadly problems that should be addressed: Annual Number of Deaths from AIDS: 8,998 reported Annual Number of Deaths from Alzheimer's Disease: 53,679 Annual Number of Deaths from Diabetes: 71,252 Annual Deaths from Prostate Cancer: 30,714 Annual Deaths from hepatitis C: 10,000 to 12,000 (2002) Annual Deaths from cardiovascular disease: 950,000 Annual Deaths from the flu (influenza): 36,000 (every year) Annual Deaths from the West Nile Virus: 284 in 2002, 182 through 11/7/03 in 2003 AIDS is a self inflicted plague that can be eliminated like polio was with a vaccination called βstop it!β. |
|
My only problem with AIDS is that it is not killing these freaks and perverts fast enough. I hope one day it will take out the other 75% of Africa then do it's work here in the 'hoods of America. I also hope for a sweeping infestation of Ebola on the DARK continent. |
Late for your Klan meeting? |
|
Polio took a more complicated prevention mine is simple 1) Wear a condom 2) Dont fuck around monogomy, aint it grand this disease could be wiped out within 20 years, but nooooooooooooooooooooooooo, people must be whores and fuck anything that moves. ETA, if they dont wanna do it, fine...... in the words of James T. Kirk, "Let them die" |
I believe that when it was first traced, it was believed to have originated in Zaire. I heard the male steward was a black man, but never heard anything about sex with a monkey. At any rate, it is the epidemic du jour right now. There are certainly a lot worse diseases out there and we need to address those first. Throwing money at a disease, especially in Africa through the U.N. is not exactly what I would consider a wise decision. After seeing what happened to the tsunami funds, I'm thinking I'll donate my money elsewhere. Maladies like cancer, MS, MD and a lot others need our attention. Aids could be stopped from spreading if people would act responsibly. That's not going to happen. |
|
I'll donate a billion. Oh, wait...sorry, I left my wallet in my other pants so I guess you will have to go fuck yourself. Wouldn't it be cheaper to build a giant wall around the dark continent preventing anyone from entering or leaving? The problem would correct itself in a matter of years. |
They say it's related to some sheep virus and leukima. I am sure itthas been around for 100's of years, just over the last 50 or so year's people have become whores.
|
Bingo. All attempts to curb this epidemic have failed so far for the simple reson that, as a society, they refuse to believe that HIV is spread by their behavior, that barrier methods offer some protection and that HIV treatments help. How is spending more money to buy more drugs and treatments that they refuse to utilize going to help? |
|
Screw that. The only ones who should get any kind of help are the newborns that are born with it due to their stupid parents. This is just nature weeding out stupid people all because they want to have sex. We need to use that money here in the states or to help out in the ME. |
|
The earliest case of AIDS was a man that had been a fisherman in the Lake Victoria area that died in 1955. His tissue samples were saved in liquid nitrogen due to the unusual(for that time period) course of the disease. Supposedly there was a patient zero who was a male airline steward that routinely flew from Hati where he had bought young boys for sex and then would make the rounds in the bath houses of NYC, Chicago, and SF. This was allegedly debunked as 'homophobic urban legend' as to not cause people to look with disdain on those with alternative lifestyles. The real kicker will be when the HIV+ in Africa get kicked with the avian flu. there is little preexisting natural immunity to H5N1 in the human population, and an influenza pandemic could result, with high rates of illness and death. We won't have to worry about sending money to cure AIDS but just to buy backhoes to bury the dead. wganz ΒΆ |
Google "gaetan dugas" and see what you come up with. Pretty sad, and pretty sick. |

At least two people on this thread have suggested that monogamy will cure AIDS (partially true) and that it's those African's fault for not being monogamous and they deserve what they get. To you, I say GET A CLUE The majority of African Women with AIDS were infected by their husband, who picked it up from prostitutes. Same story in India, which, if you didn't know, is or is going to have any even bigger AIDS problem than Africa. It is a cultural problem that male adultery is perfectly acceptable in these cultures and women have absolutely no voice. There are MILLIONS of monogamous women, good mothers and wives, who get AIDS from their filthy, stinking, disgusting husband who sleeps with prostitutes for whatever cultural reason. Don't even get me started on them having sex with virgins to "cleanse" themselves. Think it's those little girls' faults as well? |
Sounds like time to Δ their culture and their definition of MONOGAMOUS . Having one partner faithful and the other out whoremongering isn't a monogamous relationship. ![]() I'll let others hijack this thread on the eschatological implications of the HIV+ and avian flu. wganz ΒΆ |
| Cuba had the correct solution - sanitoriums for HIV+ and AIDS patients. Their humane solution included a cloistered community where they could reside with their families, and I believe work permits were issued for work outside the compound, but that was where exposure to the general populace ended. I don't know if Cuba still uses this system. |
That should have been done as soon as this shit started. If this would have happened in the early 80's with some mandatory testing the US would not have an AIDS problem. |
Stop it with your misinformation. The HIV virus causes AIDS. ETA:
|
|
There was a figure cited in the mainstream media recently that the US has kicked in about 90 % of total world funding in the search for a cure. I wonder why the rest of the developed world hasn't kicked in anywhere near as much........especially since we already carry most of their butts in terms of defense spending. * Post contains personal opinion only* |
No, he male stewardess was an adorable blonde with a perky little flight attendant cap. IIRC, he was a Canadian based out of Toronto: www.avert.org/origins.htm
This is apparently a photo of him. If you put his name into a Google image search, it's what turns up repeatedly. ![]() And it's not bloody likely that he had sex with a monkey. He is just the first TRACEABLE patient. They just couldn't figure out who he got it from, since the incubation period was about ten years, and considering how many men he gave it to, it's unlikely that he could even hazard a guess as to whom he might have gotten reamed by a decade earlier. |
|
I can only feel pity for all those people. By the tone of a lot of people here, it appears that the KKK is alive and well. For Gods sake people, state that you disagree, but do not get off on the prospect of entire generations dying. No wonder it is getting easier for the libs to equate gun owners with racist SOB's. |
Race doesn't have shit to do with this. If it was Australia I'd have the same damn opinion. They aint getting my money. If I can't go around fucking anything I want and get a handout for it, why should they? Fuck and get fucked. Don't cry to the U.S. for a handout. - BG |

Ya, I know it isn't the kids fault to be born with it or get it from rape or from being molested by the likes of Michael Jackson, but it is natures way of dealing with over population. Boy, is that going to stur up the pot! And the way to stop it is to keep your zipper up. Simple. that's all. But these savages, yes I said savages have never been taught civil behaviour or morals. So there ya go. The death toll WILL excede 1 BILLION before they find a cure. And it will be sooooooooooo expensive that another 25 million will die after that because of lack of an education. Ya know what causes babies? Yep, the same thing causes AIDS. |
The average age of infection for African female is now 8 years old. For the mathematically challenged, that means half of the newly infected females are under the age of 8 years. This is due to their culture's belief that having sex with a virgin cures AIDS. Prostitution, child molestation ![]() ![]() ![]() With attitudes like that, we might as well pile that $200 billion up and burn it for all the good that is going to do. wganz ΒΆ |

We as a global society do not have the resources combined to fight this stuff. Lockdown the continent of Africa and let the Wrath of God take hold and for you Darwin fans, let nature runs its course. As long as there is a human life on earth with HIV, it will continue and mutate. |
|
Walling off africa helps how? China and India and so many other countries are having the same problem that you solve nothing. If you want to see how one place is trying to educate people, google "hiv beauty pagent". After the most recent problems with the un I figure this is one disease that will have to run its course. I feel sorry for those women and children who are innocent, but in many places it is the culture we are working against and that is not something you can change easily or cheaply. And so far I think trying to help the world has cost the USA a lot. Instead of helping the world I think there are some internal problems to fix first because if we expect to treat the world's hiv and aids problem I expect the USA to be dragged down to their level in many ways. I guess I personally believe some cultures are going to meet darwin's concepts head on. |
