Are there any other rounds besides the 7.62x54r.  Is there any way to change the bolt to shoot normal 7.62 rounds? Or is there a 22lr coversion kit?

it's a gun that costs 70 bucks or so to buy....... why would you want to modify it? it'll cost more than the gun itself.....

no conversions that I know of. Besides, the 7.62x54R is still used by the East Bloc nations, so surplus is not a problem.

+1

A gun that is WORTH converting to .308 is a Garand.  Save up a little and get one from the CMP and buy a new barrel.

IIRC, it was like 35 lbs
for a crate. Go to UPS's
web site and check the
shipping costs to get a
rough idea.

eta: Might be easier to
just call and ask. AIM
is an awesome company
to deal with.

I would just call and ask them.

I agree with TheCynic, AIM is awsome to deal with. I regularly order 7.5mm swiss from them for my K31.

Within certain limits, you could change the round it uses with a new barrel.  You’d probably want to stay with a rimmed round, though.

But given the general crudeness of the action, rebarreling really doesn’t make any sense.

Also, while somewhat uncommon, the 7.62X54R is a fine cartridge ballistically.

Suggest you get a rubber recoil boot to slip on the stock – M44’s will thump you!

The one I have seems surprisingly accurate, recoil is somewhat rough and the action sucks ass.

My M38 (precursor to M44, just no bayonet) shoots minute of human, kicks like a mule, and the action is very rough.

I hit an abandon truck 3 out of 5 shots off hand at 1000 meters.  I thought that was pretty acurate.
