Hi all,
I have been shooting and reloading for a couple of years.  I took the advice of someone at the local shooting club to get a set of case guages to check my reloads after I had some fail to extract issues with my 9mm CZ-75 and some of my handloads.

I have the case guages now for 9mm, .40S&W and .223 Rem, but I'm not sure of the proper use.

Do I drop in sized brass to see if it falls free?  Do I check for lenght of the brass in the .223 guage?  Do the pistol ones show the OAL for loaded rounds?

Any help would be greatly apprecited.

Thanks all.

No, the pistol is just to check for fit. They should be a little tighter than your chamber, so if they fit and fall free they should function OK in your pistol.
The rifle checks everything from lenght to chamber fit.

the new copy of the dillon catalog has a VERY good article on the proper use of the case guages and what the different cuts on them mean.

Hi,
Thanks for the responses guys.  I'll try to find that Dillon article.

You made a good investment.  After a ruined trip to the range, a 2 hour round trip, I bought a set.  They have been invaluable. The .45acp gauge has really helped improve my work.  The .38 special gauge has me a bit confused though.  Rounds that are tight in it drop right into my S&W model 36.
Rounds that won't drop into my .223 and .45 gauges will not work in any firearm I have.
