Disclaimer: no gun pr0n, formal dinner..sorry guys.

Well in celebration of my mother's birthday Gabby and I made a dinner for my mom, sister, roommate and us.

The menu:

Spring Mix with sweet balsamic vinaigrette and cherry tomatoes.

Tortilla soup with grilled chicken, avocado and tortilla garnish.

Roasted dry-rub pork loin with sauteed spinach, glazed carrots and roasted potatoes.

Chocolate fondant with coffee and vanilla gelatto, mixed berry coilis and blueberries.

Now on for the pics:

GabbasaurusRex plating the salads

The finished salad.

GabbasaurusRex manning womanning the grill.

Me blending the soup.

The finished soup.

Plating the entree.

The finished entree, and that pork was cooked to perfection and very juicy.

Mixing the fondant batter.

Cooking the fondants.

The finished dessert, lightly coated with powdered sugar.

Since this was a formal sit-down dinner the firearms, extra magazines, stapler, measuring device, [Crockodile Dundee] knife [/Crockodile Dundee], ammo, beers (though a nice chianti was present), etc. had to stay put away.

The apron was utilized because my chef coats were being cleaned.

So what say ARFCOM?

Nice meal...

I had ravioli and meatballs.....

So what do you plan to do if any goblins show up at your formal dinner table? Take them on with a butter knife?

Out of frame were about 10 Wusthof knives at the ready, and about 10 feet away was a shotgun on a rack on the wall.

Nice dinner pics... but not enough guns, or ammo, or BFKs (Big Freaking Knives).

What was the sauce you used there?

Might be able to work something out then, but damn if food in this area hasn't gone up. Everything tonight was from fresh ingredients and cost over $110 for 5 (large) portions with some leftovers.

Looks great, but you should be manning the grill and she should be in the kitchen.

Call me old fashioned, but grilling is man's work. We are the keepers of the open flame since prehistoric times. And so it was, and so it shall ever be.

If you really want to learn fom the ground up buy "The Joy of Cooking", It's been in print forever & is one of the best cookbooks ever.

Leelaw..  Looks good, but no sauce for the entree course?(-3)  The grill looks like it could have been a little hotter (poor marking of the pork), also you need a wood fired grill(-2)  You call those roasted potatoes?  They look steamed to me, no color..(-2)

Good looking wife/ g/f.. (+4)

all in all I give it a 6

The pork doesn't have any markings as presented because we marked the entire roast then finished in the oven, then cut the portions. The presentation faces have no grilling and it was dry rub marinated for several hours and didn't need any sauce (though A1 and other sauces were available but nobody used them)

Wood fire grill... I'm working on a college budget and the grill was a present.

Potatoes, diced, put in foil with butter and garlic, wrapped and put over the grill. So technically I guess it's a combo cooking method, roast/steam.

nope, not sure i could handle that kind of meal.  im glad i ate at the salt lick in driftwood last night..........
