But Alliot-Marie argued that the country would soon be able to develop such technology itself, regardless.

"China is rapidly developing its industry, and today our experts say that in five years China could make exactly the same arms that we have today," France's first female defence minister told the British newspaper.

"And they will do it if they cannot import," she said.

"So maybe if we can sell them the arms, they will not make them. And in five years' time they will not have the technology to make them."

They also copy anything they get their hands on.  WTF is she smoking?

Hum hard to say.

_Officially China isn't the ennemy of anyone except her own people and taiwan.
_It's true that they will be able to build their own weapons systems at short term.
_Russia was under an arms embargo at the end of WWII, they still managed to copy a B29 at 100% >> the tupolev 4, they still managed to built A-bomb and H-bomb. As you said they know very well how to copy and spy.
_EU seems to be the only one with an official china arms embargo, Israel and other countries are currently selling hi-tech system. (and china is developping closer ties to russia)
_when you know exactly with wich weapons your ennemy is fighting, you should be better able to know how to counter it

In the other hand:
_ Imho china is a far biggest threat for the future than the islamist one.
_ They will made their own copy.

Well isn't that just like France.

Hurry up and give everyone what they want.

It's like WWII all over again.  "Oh don't worry Hitler, we'll kill those dirty Jews for you so you don't have to use up any of your valuable soldiers.  Here, use our houses and our women while you wait."

God I am just amazed at that statement:

"So maybe if we can sell them the arms, they will not make them. And in five years' time they will not have the technology to make them."

I believe that will go down in history as one of the stupidest statements ever made by a political figure.
