My family is getting a projection TV system installed as part of our renovations.

What would be the best screen size?

My dad is looking at a 100 inch screen and says the larger the screen is, the poorer the quality of the picture.  The largest size screen the place has is 110 inch.  Would a larger screen be worth the small degradation in quality, or is the degradation in quality quite evident?

Being a teenage guy, a larger screen has a big novelty factor

We will probably be using a BenQ PE7800 for the projector

www.benq.com.au/Upload/Product/SpecFile/PE7800_99.J5977.B21_7800%20spec%20sheet.htm

The room is purpose built for the projection system.  Im not sure how long it is though

Much thanks

If you use DVD's and HD---110 is fine!
Be sure to use a 3X4 ratio in your build to
reduce "standing waves" from the front speakers.
Or go with a "dead" rear wall.

If you're going to have a big screen, you need a big room.  Depending on the size, the closer you are seated, the poorer the apparent resolution.  We've got a 72" and sit about 9' back.  Looks great.

Depends on the size of your room and how far you are going to sit back. You should sit at least 1 1/2 times the diagonal of the screen back. 100" screen would be 150" back or 12 1/2 feet back. General rule. Try AVS forums for the guys that have the same projector.

Not exactly true of today's projectors. Was true 10 years ago. Today, the larger the screen, the larger the pixels. So, the farther you need to sit back.

Looking at the specs of your projector, it is 1024x576. This is kind of on the low side of resolution for today's projectors. Is he getting a deal on it?

Go shop around. Call Jason Turk at AVS. I bought my pull down 106" Dalite from him. My mom bought her 106" fixed Dalite from him.

Being anyone a larger screen has a big novelty factor.

That seems like an older model. The current model is the PE8700. The new model seems to have much better specs. But, for $8k, I think you can do better.

Doing a quick search, I found the PE7800 for about $2,600. If your dad is paying more than that, you should let him know. Also, you can get companies to bid on selling you a projector at:
www.projectorcentral.com

The absolute BEST deal in projectors today is a Panasonic L500U. It is last years model and is selling for half price from the last place that has them in stock.

My mom has this one. It throws a great picture and you can even hook your computer to it and use it as a monitor with powerstrip.

Measure the room and let us know.

As for screens, I like Dalite. The screens are fairly priced, give good performance and you can wash them. However, for a wow factor a SilverStar is supposed to be awsome.

Much thanks all

We are getting a deal on it, and being Australia, we dont exactly get the latest models very quickly.

Prices on things here are quite high due to our taxes and if we were to import one, we would end up paying the same price or thereabouts as if we bought it locally due to import taxes.

Prices would also probably be higher here because the market is alot smaller than that of the US's.

Dad just got a nice bonus so he might splurge more on the projector and screen.

Ill check out those forums thanks
