The whole 60's influence on the cinematography, etc ruined it just a bit for me.

Pay special attention to the troops retreating thru town,  atleast one is wearing USMC camo.  I've never seen any pics of people wearing the USMC camo in the european theater. So I believe this to be a slight inaccuracy, but I'm not 100% sure.
Can any historian types here confirm either way wether it was used in the europe?

When in France on my honeymoon last year I visited several outstanding museums in Normandy. One such museum had many mannequins dressed up in various combat uniforms of different Allied and Axis armies. I distinctly remember one of a GI wearing a camo uniform very similar to the USMC camo uniform worn in the Pacific. The story with the mannequin stated basically that a camo uniform was in fact issued to GI's in the European theater but was discarded almost immediately because GI's were being confused with/targeted as German troops, many of whom wore camo uniforms, particularly Waffen SS troops.

Yes, I want to say some engineer and infantry elements of the 2nd Armored Division wore them at Normandy.  So much emphasis was placed on our soldiers recognizing SS men in their camo uniforms that some cases of fratricide happened and the uniforms were withdrawn.
