I have a ruger 10/22 with some very small surface rust on the stainless barrel. They are about the size of the head of a ball point pin. It must have happened when I shot it in the snow. What is the best method to remove this surface rust? Thanks

beadblast does wonders, if it is stainless, it will look the same/better if you get it beadblasted (GLASS BEADS!)

$30 at a machine shop if you bring it in stripped.

Gun oil and steel wool works, even on blue guns.  I've also used SOS pads and hot water, must oil IMMEDIATELY after drying.  Never tried this on SS, but I use dilute phosphoric acid for metal conditioner before painting.  The rust literally disolves and washes off.  I'd suggest trying a small amount with a Scotchbrite pad.  You could also try a polish like FLITZ or ROLITE.  Those work great on SS.  Good luck!

I thought stainless did not rust? Anyways I would not use a steel brush to clean a stainless parts.I would use a stainless brush to clean a stainless part!

I used gun oil and very very fine steel wool, made it look like new. And yes, stainless will rust like anything else.
