Has anyone ever had the Post Office lose a money order.  I sent off a USPS money order on January 31...It was sent priority 2-3 day and with Delivery Confirmation and it has not been received by the other party.  Thank God he has been VERY understanding. So it has been over a week and he has not received the MO (we live in the same state).  What steps and how long of a wait before I can get a refund and get this guy his money….Thanks for any help…..KC

It's like 60 days for a refund.  After 30 days you can find out if it was cashed or not.  You can get the form at the post office and fill in the serial # from your receipt.  Yes, I've done this before.

I've had them lose one before.   To replace a lost or stolen money order you fill out Form 6401 at a Post office and pay a fee of $3.00.  Then they do a status check on the money order, whether it has been cashed by anyone, anywhere, and then they issue a new one.  I can't remember exactly, but I believe there is a required waiting period from date of issue before you can file the form.  There may also be one from date of filing form.  Something like 45 days total, or thereabouts.  Take your receipt down to the post office and pick up the form and get the timetable.  It's a pain having it happen, I feel for you.

The upside?  The PO will likely deliver it *eventually*...  The downside is that there is no guarentee on delivery times with USPS.  Next time, use FedEx.  That way, you can actually *track* it as well.  The "Delivery Confirmation" is about worthless.

I have to add that del. conf, ( 45 cents) is well worth it when it can assure you that it did arrive at it's destination, ie;  " I never got your payment" .
