What exactly does it mean when you call someone a "Dandy"? Is that the same as calling them a fag or a panzy? |
+1 The modern vernacular. |
Didn't Black Oak Arkansas have a song called "Jim Dandy to the rescue?" Was there a subliminal meaning to the song? Most southerners I've met here in Texas just call me "asshole." |
Yes there is that song and I have seen them in concert. Don't know the words are very familiar with the song so I don't know. I'm sure your fellow Texans are accurate in their assement.

Like calling someone a 'Nancy-boy'! Actually, a 'Dandy' is not quite any of those terms, just someone who takes unnecessary or inappropriate care and attention to their clothing. Eric The(Southern)Hun

Yes, I've heard of that. But that's not common speech. That's an old song title. "Hey, Bill, you ever get your truck fixed?" "Naw, there's a problem with the dandy." That would be common speech. |

As in all things Southern, it strictly depends on the inflections used within the context of the conversation. It's a saying like: "Bless his heart," which can be used to issue a reaction or comment that's anywhere from sincere sympathy to abject facetiousness. I use "Dandy" in describing someone to relay anything from "he's cool," to "he's pretentious," |
They're not; but the ignorant ones still fighting the civil war (on the side of Dixie), hating Catholics, yankees, and anybody who doesn't buy their bullshit think they're accurate.

Catholics and Yankees are some of my best friends. The War Between the States is over. Just need to keep the history straight.
