I need to buy a new TV. I figure I'll get a HDTV since everyone will probably need one anyway in a few years. I have limited space in my entertainment cabinet. I have 31" of width to work with. I would love to get a 32" tv but most units these days have the speakers on the sides and puts them out of range for my cabinet. Does anybody know of a TV with speakers on the bottom that is still a decent brand? Also what are some tips on getting the most from a HDTV even though I will probably watch mostly regular tv on it. Right now I am considering a Sony 27" HDtv monitor that is on circuit city's website. The only thing I dont like is that it doesnt have the built in HDTV tuner.

How much coin do you have? The options are limitless if the money is as well.  I would get an integrated reciever if you could.

But I have to tell you, the Superbowl on HDTV on a 56inch 16:9 ratio Sony is Heaven.  Forgot the Bose surround sound.

The 4:3 screen is a square and the 16:9 screen is a rectangle. The 16x9 format is really only good for HDTV content and widescreen DVD's.  If you spend most of your time watching standard cable tv or satellite broadcasts(which are in a 4x3 screen format) then on a 16x9 screen format TV the picture will be either be smaller than the 16x9 screen (left to right) or it will have to be stretched and distorted to fill the 16x9 screen, both of which are undesireable picture quality in my opinion.

I'd like to keep it under 800. So I am looking at "Flat Tube" crt type tv's only and my space is limited. I just want to be as digital ready as I can.

I like the 32" Panasonic 4:3 HDTV Ready TAU Series.  Your cable company can provide you with an HDTV cable box if you want to watch HDTV on it.  There are only a few HDTV channels available from most cable companies at this time.  Also a very slim bezel and speakers around the TV makes it one of the best for tight spaces.

How much did your entertainment cabinet cost? Seems backwards to buy tv just to fit a cabinet.

I see a 27 in Panasonic HDTV, flat tube also at Circuit City.  27 in wide.

The 30 in Panasonic is 35" wide so that wouldn't work.

OK, the big problem is that few make a tube 27 in TV with the HDTV Tuner.

Samsung does.

Thanks for all your help guys. It has been helpful. My entertainment cabinet was about $700 and is only a few years old plus it matches the other furniture. That is why I am buying a tv to fit into it.
