INVASION USA Limbaugh warns Bush on illegal immigration Radio talk-show giant spurred by Mexico attack on Arizona law -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Posted: January 31, 2005 11:00 a.m. Eastern By Joseph Farah © 2005 WorldNetDaily.com WASHINGTON – Rush Limbaugh, the radio talk-show giant with more than 20 million listeners, is poised to add his considerable voice to those calling on President Bush to heed popular opinion on issues of tightening border security and enforcing immigration laws, WorldNetDaily has learned. "We cannot maintain our sovereignty without securing and protecting our borders in an era when terrorists around the world seek entry to this country," he said Friday in a private gathering in Florida. Limbaugh has not been an outspoken critic of the president on this issue in the past. Neither has he focused much of his broadcast attention on the border and immigration issues during his nearly two-decade career as a nationally syndicated radio talk-show host. Instead, Limbaugh is perceived as a champion of many Bush policies. But, clearly, Limbaugh sees Bush as out of step with the public in his continued calls for implementation of a guest worker program that has been characterized by critics as an amnesty plan for as many as 20 million illegal aliens already in the country, Limbaugh said he was particularly disturbed by statements Friday by Mexico's Foreign Secretary Luis Ernesto Derbez threatening to appeal to international courts a new Arizona law barring illegal aliens from collecting some public benefits. Proposition 200, approved overwhelmingly by voters in that state Nov. 2, has already survived critical legal tests in state and U.S. courts. Bush already is facing mounting opposition to his guest worker plan in the House Republican caucus. A year ago, Rep. Tom Tancredo was a lonely voice of opposition to the plan. Today, he says, there are at least 180 Republican votes against the plan. House Speaker Dennis Hastert is on record as saying the plan will not move forward in the House without majority Republican support. "Rush has 20 million listeners a week, so if he decides to attack President Bush's plan to regularize immigration flows through a guest-worker program, he could help kill the idea," said Wall Street Journal columnist John Fund. In a White House news conference last week, Bush continued to promote his ideas about immigration reform: "I know there's a compassionate, humane way to deal with this issue. I want to remind people that family values do not stop at the Rio Grande River. People are coming to our country to do jobs that Americans won't do, to be able to feed their families. And I think there's a humane way to recognize that, at the same time protect our borders, and at the same way to make sure that we don't disadvantage those who have stood in line for years to become a legal citizen. And I'm looking forward to working with people of both parties on the issue." Meanwhile, a leading member of his own party last week announced sweeping measures aimed at cracking down on the ability of terrorists to travel within the United States. The Real ID Act, introduced by Rep. James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., looks to deny drivers licenses to illegal aliens, tighten the political asylum system abused by terrorists, plug a three-mile hole in the border fence between California and Mexico near San Diego, and strengthen deportation laws to more quickly oust foreign terrorists dwelling in the U.S. "American citizens have the right to know who is in their country, that people are who they say they are, and that the name on a driver's license is the holder's real name, not some alias," said Sensenbrenner, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee. "The 9-11 hijackers could have used their passports to board the planes, but only one did. Why? Those murderers chose our driver's licenses and state IDs as their forms of identification because these documents allowed them to blend in and not raise suspicion or concern. Mohammed Atta received a six-month visa to stay in the U.S. yet received a Florida driver's license good for six years!" He says the act, which has 115 cosponsors in the House, would establish a uniform rule that temporary driver's licenses for foreign visitors expire when their visa terms expire, and create tough rules for confirming identity before temporary driver's licenses are issued. |
Americans will do these jobs. The jobs will just have to pay more. And, as a result, prices will be higher. But I, and many others, am willing to pay more for some services to fix this terrible problem. |

I wonder if Bush isnt doing this because of some misguided promise to the Pres of Mexico Fox. You know he knows that this is a hugly unpoluar issue that is only going to cause him pain if he pursues it. My gut says there is definately something else going on with this whole issue. IMHO |
|
It would be comforting to think that Bush is just playing politics with this issue, i.e. he appears to support something, like he did with the AWB, that he knows deep down has no prayer of passing. In the end it's a win/win, he appears to be the good guy to Fox and the hispanic lobby, but noting meaningful happened. OTOH: The border situation is the pink elephant in the room that no one wants to see. Good for Rush. Even GW needs a good bitch slap now and again. It's good for the soul.

A big +2 |

"...Jobs Americans won't do..." Either Bush is the idiot the libs make him out to be (he's not) or he's lying to promote another agenda. In the free market, if there's a demand, someone or something will step in to fill it. Bush MUST know this. It may take a little while to sort out and for the prices to come back down, but the market will sort it out. So, what's the hidden agenda? |
Another +1, here. But Rush has been very consistent in his criticism of President Bush's seeming fixation on this illegal alien amnesty BS. There is a very fine tightrope to walk, all will agree, but the continued security of our borders trumps every other consideration! And even so, a nation has the right to determine its national character, and to protect its national identity. Turning Los Angeles into a realistic rendition of the city in 'Blade Runner' is not in this country's best interests! Eric The(Nativist)Hun

I can't understand why people try and find some bassackwards excuse for why President Bush supports issues that are so clearly wrong. Even if you are right about Bush not supporting the AWB or the Guest Worker program, then all that means is that Bush really is a liar. I voted for Bush in 2000, I campaigned for Bush in 2004 and I voted for Bush in 2004. Now, I expect somehting in return! I want the President that I helped to put in office to stand up on the right side of the issues that his base feels strongly about. Stopping illegal immigrants and tightening border security is one of them. BTW... Bush isn't trying to keep some misguided promise to Vincente Fox, he's trying to maintain a cheap source of labor for Corporate America. |
|
Please oh please close the damn boarders. If we WANTED anyone to come in we wouldn't have boarders or passports or whatever. They are there to keep our country from becoming SOMEONE ELSE'S country. If people want to come into our country then they should persue legal entry. As for jobs, they will be filled by people if they need the money. Some people even like doing low end jobs. Its true, you may need to raise the pay for these jobs. If employers need these jobs to be done then they will do what is only fair. -Foxxz |
Dude, there are PLENTY of poor americans who do lots of cheap labor in this country. You mention how your such a bush supporter then rant about Corporate America like its the source of all evil? Hmmmmmm
|
|
The jobs that American's won't do is bogas. I sat and listened to a contractor talking about other contracters who hire the illigals because they can pay them less, and no bennies to boot. They turn out substandard work because most don't know what they're doing, but it's cheap labor and a bigger profit margin for the boss. So no, I don't buy that. |
Whatever the motivation, I agree it's very bad JuJu. And I agree it's probably motivated by short term economics (to the long term detriment of the country). How you can fight a war on the one hand and leave your ass swinging in the breeze on the other is beyond me. |
+1 here Old Painless |

But, if the border is shut down, or at least tightened up, the flow of illegal drugs will dwindle thus raising the prices. This would disadvantage the poor and homeless and minorities who don't have as much to spend on drugs as the upper 1% of wage-earners! Crime would probably go down as well. Just think of all the police officers that would put out of work, with wives and kids to feed. Unemployment would skyrocket! Closing the borders would be: Anti-poor Anti-minority Anti-homeless Anti-police Anti-environment (just because) ![]() ![]() j/k ![]() |

if you look at the rest of the world our immigration policy is the exception not the rule almost every other developed country has very strict immigration policies I used to support our "open borders" back in the early '80's until I realized the nobody else in the world had an immigration policy like ours we may get some cheaper goods & cheap labor BUT we are paying a far bigger price both economicly & with the long term socila implications |
yep, I just got through building a house & it was obvious this is what happens the skilled tradesman from the USA we're few & far between almost all the big crews were from south of the border & I'm sure worked for much less, I know that was true when it came to the cost for framers, brickers, roofers, HVAC, plumbers, concrete etc. I don't necessarily begrudge the Mexicans for this, you can't blame them (some of them did do excellent work) for wanting to come here for work BUT it's the Govt's policies that have allowed this to happen, sanctioned it basicly |
We just got done building my fathers girlfriends house. Funny, the bricker hired a bunch of illigals and they never showed up to the site. About an two hours later we went looking for them and found them about 3 miles for the site pulled over and arrested by the DOT. All 6 of them. I thought it was pretty funny. I don't know what happend to the bricker that hired them but I bet he had a bad day that day. He (contractor) let them drive a truck pulling a cherry picker that needed a CDL to drive. None of them had a driver lic. ![]() I still have a smile on my face thinking about it. |

This is crazy letting them in giving them a drivers license. Then Amnesty and Social Security Benefits that they have not paid into the system for. How are they going to pay back money for Social Security if allowed benefits? Here we have yesterday AT&T merging with whatever the name of the other company is. Than the loss of all those jobs. More money not going into Social Security, and company after company going over seas. Some of them being defense companies. Technical companies being sold to China. What the F is wrong with the United States. Allowing people just to swing on into the country. We will be the down fall of ourselves and will be unable to do anything. Screw all these other countries and start taking care of what is here. I hate to say it, but unions caused a big part of this problem. They started out with good intentions then when they had to deal with Government they became just has bad. Afgan-land----Went to get Bin-boy who is still out there. We cleaned it up, but still refuse to do anything about Opium growers. Reason biggest crop to be exported and will cause a civil war and more poverty. This is a Homeland Security issue also, but do we do anything about it HELL no. So allow all the profits to go to Terrorist's. We are going to be our own downfall because their so called rich don't give a crap. Borders are more than Mexico at this point. Sure they will come over from there, but it's not only Mexican's to worry about. This whole thing is getting me sick. Watching the # of Americans being killed. Saying it will bring a safer Nation to bring Democracy to the world. What a bunch of crap sometimes. It isn't Democracy it's Corporation's, the DOW and all that wall street BS. The President can't even handle EL Presidente Fox. After watching Lou Dobbs night after night. Seeing and hearing about all we talk about here. We are sheeps being sent to slaughter. It might not happen in my lifetime. If things keep going like they are, it will in our children’s life. They will be the ones picking the fields and trying to cross boarders for a better life. |

Good post. I was going to start one about Rush's broadcast yesterday on this topic but never got around to it. I completely agree with Mr. Limbaugh. Tossing a third party candidate who holds strong opinions on keeping the borders tightened will definitely help split the Republican vote in '08. The Republicans need to listen to the people when it comes to illegal immigration. Lest we end up with a liberal in the Whitehouse next election. |
I suspect Rush is more worried about the splintering of the GOP than the effect of illegal immigration on the nation. |
Oh, you mean he is not telling the truth again??? |
I like GW, but he is a politician after all. If Billy Graham became a politician, he'd start lying. It's an occupational hazard. |
