I managed to make a batch of mashed potatoes, from scratch mind you, that ended up being fluffy, creamy, and slightly lumpy all at the same time.
it was quite good

I miss eating mashed potatoes.  I used to leave the skin on, and add cheese, ranch dressing, butter, salt and milk.  So yes, a definite +1 on the ranch!

Those things tasted so good, I'd keep eating after I was full.  Whew!

One of the weekly highlights at my high school is that on Tuesdays the home economics students sell baked potatoes with all the trimmings.  I asked for everything but salsa and was quite suprised to find Ranch dressing on it.     After tasting it I was a convert.

Ranch dressing is awesome on potatoes.!!

Define batch? I make about 60 # worth a week .

#15 red taters skin on
2 cups milk
2 cups Heavy cream
1# butter
2 T Garlic powder
2 T Parsley
Slim 1/4 cup Kosher salt .

I steam diced potatoes with several cloves of garlic, which go into the mash once the taters are cooked through.

I cut and deepfry my potatos  then put salt on them  Healthier that way

Ranch is good on/in damned near anything!

Here's a twist - regular mashed potatoes (milk, butter, salt pepper) - then add sour cream, parmesian, and a metric assload of dill.  A lot of dill.

They are GREAT.  Got the recipe from my brother - he's a upper-class caterer.

The secret to good mashed potatos, is use cream instead of milk, and heat the cream on the stove before mixing it in.

Any pretty girls in the "homemaking class," (that is what we old folks call those classes back then)?

I will go with lots of butter, chives, and a dash of pepper.

+1 on heating the cream before adding it to the taters (I add butter to the cream)

+1 on boiling/steaming the potatoes with whole garlic cloves.

That's pretty much my recipe then add plenty of chives before serving.
