Thats a muzzle refrence sensor. You use it to update the ballistic computer to compensate for barrel droop due to heating.

LOL... never noticed how that looks...
It's the bore reference device. The fire control computer checks it's position, and compensates for
barrel droop caused by heat, etc, and will make corrections (within reason, of course) in the
gunnery computer.
