Why do they mount a ACOG scope backwards at the end of the main gun??

Thats a muzzle refrence sensor. You use it to update the ballistic computer to compensate for barrel droop due to heating.

It makes everything look further away, makes it more fair.

As if there was a way to be fair when you're shooting at things with a 120mm gun

LOL... never noticed how that looks...
It's the bore reference device. The fire control computer checks it's position, and compensates for
barrel droop caused by heat, etc, and will make corrections (within reason, of course) in the
gunnery computer.
