When gas prices were going up, there was much discussion of plots, price-gouging, oil tankers anchored offshore, et cetera.  Now that they're falling ($1.26/gallon here), should we assume that this, too, is the work of the dastardly oil barons?  Perhaps the low gas prices are a ploy to get us to stop more often at their gas stations and buy more over-priced snack foods.

::laughing::
yeah! did you ever notice that when there's a price hike, the new prices are on the boards the next morning, but in the event of price drop, "the new prices will take effect some time next week" ??? hhmmmmmmmmm....

Heeeeeree's you tin foil hat.

[:D]

Seriously, you're right. The "media" won't report falling prices. Only nutty conspiracy theories get ratings and sell newspapers.

Still as high as $2.07 for premium here. No price drop that I can see.

The oil companies are trying to get the highest possible price for their product. They know when demand will go up, its a seasonal thing. Happens every year. Every spring they say "opps" there is a supply shortage, if only we didn't have to refine 14 different blends....blah blah blah.

Personally, I think this go round, having "W" in the White House helped to keep the prices from hitting $2.00 / gallon.

"W" is an Oil Man, personally I think he had a little 'talk' with Big Oil. It went something like this:

"Now boys I like high prices just as much as you do and I'm a free enterprise, Government-hands-off kinda president. But remember that I was elected on a very narrow margin. If you boys try and take too much advantage of 'refining shortages' the Democrats are going to have my Ass for lunch. Game over in  '02 and its back to the Left Wing, Socialist, Democatic agenda. So you boys had better back off a bit on the price increases, 'find' some refining capacity somewhere soon."

AND THEY DID.

Prices around here are 136.9, 2 weeks ago they were 178.9. I have noticed that the traffic is way down, even on the weekends. I suppose the downward spiral is due to loss of revenue, no traffic no money. Around here gas stations not only sell gas, they sell mulch, videos,LP gas, everything else, so they have alott of money invested in products that are not oil related. If people stay at home because of high gas prices they suffer both ways. I don't know what type of traffic it takes to cover their investment,but they better find out and stop the bullshit. There teaching people to stay at home and to buy smaller vehicles, both are not good for their business.
