[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Chevy HHR (Page 1 of 2)

This is what went on in the GM engineer's department the day they started designing that. Engineer 1: We need something to compete with the PT Cruiser! Engineer 2: The PT Cruiser came out several years ago and isn't selling well at all. Engineer 3: He's right, it would be a waste of money to try and compete with that. Engineer 1: But we're losing money in the 'ugly SUV/station wagon' market! Engineer 3: But sir.... Engineer 1: Nonsense! We'll just spend $100 million to develop a copy of the PT Cruiser! Engineers 2 and 3: Whatever, we get paid no matter what..... |
|
BRING BACK THE CHEVELLE AND/OR THE CAMARO IN A MANNER THAT MAKES IT COMPETITIVE WITH THE MUSTANG OR GET THE HELL OUT OF THE RETRO ROD KITCHEN!!!! Pussies. I hate Fords & I can't believe I'm considering a Mustang. They had the balls to go with it and the risk merits the reward, however. BETTER YET, BRING BACK THE CHARGER AND THE CUDA, AND IF YOU MAKE IT LOOK LIKE A DODGE OMNI (LIKE YOU DID IN THE LATE 70s/EARLY 80s) OR THAT GOD-AWFUL GTO THAT LOOKS LIKE A CAVALIER ON STEROIDS, YOU DIE!!! |
It's based on the same platform as the Cobalt (Cavalier replacement). In other words, economy car mechanicals. Will be funny if all the people who shit all over the Honda Ridgeline like this. The HHR is much lighter duty than the Ridgeline. |
|
Actually, the Ridgeline is trying to be whatever the Explorer Sport-Trac is. It's basically a Pilot with a bed in the back. |
This HHR isnt marketed as a truck. big difference. |
The last thing the world needs is another minivan!! I will NEVER EVER own a mini van, I dont care how many kids the wife pumps out! I am a 1 truck, 1 car man no SUV's and no $@#Minivans! The HHR actually looks DIFFERENT with the retro 1940's styling, not like your typical front wheel drive shitbox. I think it looks kind of neat, like a car I might actually want to own for once. A new Camaro or Mustang is out of the picture for me. With my luck the wifey would kill herself driving one of those . Overall, I think it is a good concept, like the Dodge Magnum. I like it! |
2.2LTR standard 2.4LTR optional. I am not mipressed. No AWD either Think if given the choice I would take a Subaru WSX And I am a Chev guy. |
small sounds like the shitty nissan sentra i had to use as a rental car the past 4 days. |
In other words, Chevy=American Brand=Good Honda=Japanese Brand=Bad |
the Honda is trying to make a truck without making a decent truck... Chevy made a vehicle that looks different, but isnt made or marketed for something it cant do. is reading comprehension lost on you? Im a fan of the Scion xB as well.. I like the looks of it, and it is made to carry 4 people, fuel efficiently... thats what it does.... it isnt marketed as a sailboat tower... |
Point isn't lost on me. I've actually seen the Ridgeline at the Detroit Auto Show. I was prepared to hate it, but was really impressed with it. It doesn't really compete with a F150 or GMT800. The fact that it has IRS and doesn't have a full ladder frame works out to be an advantage since they put in a huge amount of storage space under the bed. And the AWD system is the same as the Pilot, which is one of the better AWD systems of that type. Much better than that rotten ST replacement Canyon/Colorado that GM can't give away. The market segment of compact pickups as scaled down full-sized pick-ups is dying. I heard Ford is looking at cancelling the Ranger replacement and GM is working on something similar to the Ridgeline. |
3.5L V6, and it has less torque than Chevy's 4 cyl 2200 Vortec. something wrong there? yes. It lacks everything a Honda always does. Torque and Power. which is why I wont go anywhere near one. |
Cool. More to go around for me. The wifes POS GM minivan is the last GM I'll probably ever pay for. Except the 'Vette there's nothing, and I mean nothing GM makes that I'd want. If I want a full size sailboat tower, I'll buy a Titan. <------ Current Ranger Edge owner, kinda by default.

Why survive when we can go bankrupt? Do y'all have any concept of the corporate world? |
I'm sure the honda people know exactly how many people actually tow things with a p/u, and I suspect the number is far lower than you think. |
Something makes me think that nothing short of a time machine will satisfy your dream. Face it, time has (happily) gone by. I dig classic cars, but talk about viewing the automotive past with rose colored glasses. Sure some back in the day had these cars, but most were restricted to driving big poor quality POS's. You can have performance today, you know. Head down to your chevy dealer with 50k and get a Corvette. It absolutely murders any musclecar of the late 60s. Love them because they are classics, and artifacts of a time in history. Not because you somehow believe they are superior. |
|
I thought it was going to be full-sized like the It's going to be hard to compete with the PT, the only people that are going to buy it are the people looking for a car that looks like it, but don't like the PT. The SSR is too insanely expensive to be a Camaro/Firebird replacement, they were selling for nearly $50,000 when they came out, nearly double what the last Camaro/Firebird sold for. If they had put that V-8 in the Camaro/Firebird, they would have done a lot better in sales and they would have survived to another redesign and cash in on the retro fad. |
Oh yeah, I rented a PT Cruiser convertible a few months ago and it was a good car, but I don't like the sedans. I want to buy one in a year or so, but I hate that it's the same price as a 300. If it's not much more than a Sebring convertible when I'm buying, I'll get one. |
I don't think anyone would argue that everyday econo and family cars haven't improved over the past decades. They certainly have. Even when you consider mass-production muscle/pony cars The LS1-powered 4th generation F-Bodies ('98-'02) were as fast or faster than any Camaros or Firebirds that came before. They also got better milage, handled better, and were much more reliable, comfortable, and safe than their predecessors. Nevertheless, the fact remains that young adults of the late '60s and early '70s had a much larger field of performance models from which to choose when compared to today. For <$30k RWD performance cars today, we have only the Mustang GT remaining. |
Technically, you are correct about the numbers of performance cars available, but that ignores that the 'sport truck' & SUV market has massively eaten into the market. Barring the CJ & Bronco, this market simply didn't exist at that time, so taken as a whole, the young consumer has much more to chose from today in terms of performance and/or image. It just might not be road performance. |
Sport trucks and SUVs are in no way comparable to muscle/pony cars. Completely different type of vehicle. Of course, the bottom line is what matters to any business. The bottom line in this business says cheap RWD performance cars just don't sell as well as SUVs and trucks. That's why they're a dying breed.

Farms= towing/hauling. The people around heree are smart enough not to buy a Honda for their applications. Theres a reason the F series is the best selling vehicle for 24 years running, |
Looks like a PT cruiser got humped by a Liberty.... Chebbys just don't do it for me... |
The # of people that live on farms is small compared to the number of people that live in the non-farm areas (ie the suburbs and cities) I stand by the statement that the raw number of people that use their vehicle for towing purposes is relatively small - although many people in your area do, undoubtedly, tow stuff. Of course, more people live in my county than in the whole of SD, and the only people towing things here are landscaping contractors. |
when i said it wouldnt sell at all, I was refferring to in my area. People in your area may want an SUT (Stupid Useless Truck) |
