Google is your friend: Link to instructions for 1042 model If you haven't replaced your evaporator pad in a while you probably should do so. I would get a new one before I took the old one out because the old one is probably crusty with minerals and may fall apart in your hands. Edited to add: Take a look at this brochure - it says that there is thumbscrew access to the evaporator pad - it might help you figure out how to get at it: Link |

Well, that's a start ... Thanks. Not the exact model number but it did answer some of my questions. I'd imagine that the evaporator pad will need to be replaced since we've never used the thing since we've been in the house. I'll dig around a little more ... If any of the rest of you have used these things before pointers would be appreciated. |

As far as the 2 sets of High and Medium, my guess is that in the Low position, the damper is almost closed at a 12:00 position. As you move either up or down, it opens the damper. Medium could be 10:00 or 2:00. Just a guess, though! I imagine it drips water onto a filter to saturate it, then the heated air leaving the furnace travels over the filter, picking up humidity. Whatever doesn't get picked up probably drips into a drain of some sort. |
Could be ... by why two "HI" settings? Unless I misunderstood you ... |
