Need some help with my Jeep. When it is cold and I hit the break the engine can race. This hasbeen going on every so often since I got it new in 2001. I have had four dealerships look at the issue but they never can get it to duplicate problem. They start it up and let it run/heat up and there is no problem to find. So what do I tell these guys when I take it in? Anybody have this issue? It is a Sahara with auto trans. Appreciate any info. Thanks.

The pedals are very close together, and you can it both of them when wearing boots.  I had the same problem the first winter I drove my Jeep, till I figured out what I was doing.

If it is not you hitting the pedal then you should look at the vacumn system the gives you power assist on the brakes.  There is a vacumn resevoir that stores vacumn from the engine to give you power assist.  I don't know how this could cause the engine to race only when you hit the brake.  On most systems if there is a problem with a hose it leaks air always and the engine will have a vacumn hose leak and the brakes will not build full vacumn.  But I don't know how jeeps are set up.

That is all I can think of unless there is a wire or something under the dash that the pedal bar hits or moves now and then.
