My stupid box has been giving me issues so I went to do a system restore and the only date I could restore to was today. What gives?

The surefire way to fix any computer problem is to back up your documents then format and re-install windows.

Usually that isn't necessary and very much overkill.

Personally I find the system restore "feature" kind of worthless. Usually if something isn't working there is a good reason for it and the restore is band-aid. Gotta fix the cause. Sometimes the cause has been brewing for quite some time and even the longest back system restore won't do much. That's when it is format time.

If you are getting windows error messages about missing files and such, make sure you don't have a virus. Also make sure your drivers are configured properly. Beyond that unfortunately the best ways is usually to just format it. I usually do mine every 6-12 months so it is behaving like a new computer almost all the time. Also helps me keep just the documents I want and make sure that I've got the unnecessary stuff backed up on a CD. Keeps my hard drive cleaner.

You know, issues.
One day IE opens in a full widow. Next day in a tiny one.
One day a program works fine. Next day it doesnt.
I go to system restore and there are no dates to restore to.
Norton wont update with live update.
You know, issues.

I am buying a Mini Mac as soon as possible. Fuck windows and PCs.

What version of Windows?  Any specific error messages?

If it's Windows ME, then you're beyond hope.  Reformat and install XP.  As a part-time Mac user myself, the Mini Mac sounds like a great plan, so long as you don't play a lot of 3D games.

What kind of PC - be very specific - because some PC's have a hidden partition with the Windows install files and it is possible to create a Install CD from these files.

HP / Compaq usually - but some eMachines, Gateway and others use the same method.
