I'm planning a trip to the Philippines this year and I was REALLY shocked at airline ticket prices! I found a well known site called www.priceline.com where you tell them how much you WANT to pay for them. How can they do this, how does this work, and has anyone ever used this site to buy tickets? |

I used Priceline.com a couple of years ago. I bought a round trip ticket to London for a little under $400. Unless they've changed it, you're at the mercy of them putting you on whatever flight is the cheapest. Period. You don't get to pick the time of day, so you could be on a red-eye. Luckily, international flights leave out of here at around 2pm, so I was safe. Try travelocity.com and orbitz.com, too. ETA more info. |
| Not sure. You can go through the whole process and see the flight you'd be on without having to pay for it. I think you have a certain amount of time to think about it before you commit. You could always go through the process (doesn't take long), see if that's what you're looking for and go from there. If it's not, don't buy it. Let me remind you, it's been a couple years. They might have changed things around a little since then. |

I've used them a couple of times. There are two ways of getting airline tickets; 1. Name your own price, pay up front and than find out what the flight is and the departure time etc. 2. Pick a flight from the list they provide, choosing airline and dep/arrival times for a fixed named price. I usually spend the extra $ and do method two because method one will get you flights that leave/arrive at 2 am etc and you will have to change planes 2-3 times with lay overs. so a trip that would usually be a one hop 3 hr flight turns into an all day travel odessy! not worth the $ 50 savings !

Flying to the P.I. involves stopping in a city like Seattle and then stopping in Japan and on to Manila. I usually have to change planes so paying less means stops, I alread have them. Leaving at 2:00am doesn't bother me if it meanes saving $800! |
