I think I've finally found a winter sport! All these years living in the cold and not having my own sport... now I've found it- snowman hunting. Half the fun is building the snowman, the other 3/4 is making it disappear. This was my initial proof of concept and there will definitely be more to follow. In doing so, I can see the targets and the videos becoming more formal and more refined. I plan to set up several scenarios with multiple targets, include multiple shooters, and otherwise have fun and be creative. Perhaps the sport will catch on and I will see others posting video here, so go ahead and try it! This particular sample was over 6 feet tall, about 3 feet wide, and stood about 100 yards away. Narration provided by my best friend and shooting partner, my 10 year old son; vanishing effect provided by tannerite and one round of .223 fired from an AR15. |

Holy crap....you vaporized the poor bastard! One minute Frosy's enjoying the crisp cold air, next thing he knows, he is the crisp cold air. My only suggestion would be to put a little more effort in to making Frosty look a little more "realistic" as far as a face, maybe a carrot nose...whatever. Also, possibly a non-tannerite side by side? Perhaps a shotgun with slugs? Edited to add: How about using a cantalope as his head, and pack snow around it? Just a thought. |

There was a time on guard duty in Bosnia that I totally lost it on a snowman the previous squad had left. We were working 4 on and 8 off. Everytime our squad went out it would snow. After 3 weeks of this the snowman had to die. It had it's own broom which I took from it and laid waste to the snowman until he was just a pile. The rest of the squad just laughed their asses off as I assaulted this snowman with his own broom |
+1 we need details too - cuz now I want to waste a Frosty and I need to know if a standard AR is going to get the job done or not. Patty *ETA* Just re-read AR 15 .223 - WOW thanks for the new hobby Ed! |

I am out of town later this week, but as soon as I get back and we get more snow I will be back out there. However, we have lots of people here that might be willing to try out some different options, and are probably surrounded by snow. I know 1lb propane tanks are on my list for the flaming frosty effect. The key to make it interesting is to embedd the active component inside the snowman, whether in the head or body. Obviously making them look more appealing makes for a better video. Some may opt to dress them as well. For this experiment, I had neither the time, nor the supplies to improve on what I used... I asked several people to help, but none seemed interested. |
![]() Dude, you got some anger issues attacking an unarmed snowman ! |
You had to be there, man, you had to be there. He was attacking me, every 4 hours, it was 4 hours of snow, and then it would quit when we got off shift. |
HA! Tannerite is just too much fun. I haven't tried it yet because I could easily wind up with a $100 a day habit. |
