pretty sure the X stands for extreme and it's more rugged/weatherproof...read more expensive.

Save your money, I have a M6 and the laser is the most expensive cat toy I have ever bought. Buy the M3...

Higher output than the standard M3/M6 bulb assembly (30% more).
Supposed to be more shock resistant for Xtreme duty.

Yep.
But, you can get the M6 with an LED navigation light instead of a laser.
For the money, I'd go ahead and get the M3X.
