I'm looking for a "best bang for the buck" stand alone home humidifier. It's drier than a popcorn fart in here.

Any ideas?

Ha

I drug mine up from the basement and fired it up a couple days ago -- sleep much better now.

They don't make mine anymore but it is like this one

Home Depot has a couple models in the $20-$30 range.  They're not that expensive, and
seem to work for years.

I think you are a lot better off going with a furnace humidifier.  Just about to do that myself.

If your having trouble sleeping theres nothing better then a humidifier filled with cheap Vodka in the bedroom.

I bought a ultrasonic humidifier from WalMart, it's the ReliOn brand. Cost was about $30 if I remember right, works great for the bedroom at night, no more dry, sore throats in the morning.

Not an option, as this house has a rather unique radiant electric heating system that is embedded in the ceiling drywall.

The one good thing about this time of year in cold climates-

It's the ideal time to vacumn seal your ammo and other goodies, as they're about as
dry as they'll be all year.  I'm running around 30% in the house now, except the bedroom
where I have the humidifier.

Be sure and get one with a humidistat built into it.  The ones that run all the time will overhumidify and cause condensation/mold/rust problems.  I have three Holmes 2.5 gallon units that put  almost 5 gallons (combined) of water into the air per day to maintain a 45% average humidity.  They sure make a big difference in the comfort level in my house.

Ok, what does the vodka have to do with it?

We usually use this method during the day, but at a slower boil.

Never heard this one before.  I guess it makes sense that it would work.

I got a Holmes 4 gallon output (900 square feet coverage) for $60 at Lowes. Has a humidistat, and you can adjust it to whatever percentage humidity you want in your house.

During the day, I keep it in the kitchen, and bring it in the bedroom at night. Makes a big difference.

THe humidity level was at 22% when I plugged mine in on Friday.

I'm SO glad I got it.....especially since I've been sick.............
