I don't know how many of you remember me, but I left for Navy boot camp on October 6. I graduated December 3 and have been on hold at Hospital Corps school ever since. They cut us loose for leave last Saturday, so I've been taking it easy here in Tucson, enjoying the warmth. Great Lakes is at -20 right now, or so I hear. I'm going to do some more AR-15 shooting. All we shot in boot was the Beretta. It left me feeling inadequate. Anyway, I'll be hanging around here for a week, then y'all probably won't hear from me for a while. |

We form work parties and do random stuff around base, and we PT. It's far more than boot camp PT, but I love it. It's definitely going to get me in shape. It'll take at least a month for my class to start, so there will be a lot of it. I will try to get with the single Boat Company that the Marine Corps has. If I can't get that, I'll try to get with the next Marine unit leaving for Iraq. After that, my friend who's in sub school right now and I will become RDCs (the Navy's drill instructors) because we both think that there are way too many people in the Navy who don't care - they're dirtbags, essentially. It's embarassing for me because I don't want my service to have a bad reputation in ten years because of the antics of some people. |

May be a little bit before they let you become an RDC. Plus the problem isn't with boot camp, it starts with recruiting. The recruiters are told to take crap, then boot camp and 'A' School are forced to just pump 'em through. Chalk one up to politics. Great, cause then we just have to deal with them out in the fleet. Don't let all the shit details up there in GLakes get you down, I've done 'em all. They're just trying to keep you busy and keep you out of trouble until you class up. |
![]() Congradulations big time ... it's all down hill from boot camp. Now drop and give me 30 booter! Thanks for your service as you can see I did mine. You're in for an adventure if you stay the full course and get some fleet time under your (ever expanding) belt. Been there, done that, got the tee-shirt. I can tell stories that would make a grown man blush ... but are just same old stuff, differend day/port/woman for a sailor. Enjoy your time off and again, thank you for your service! |

Congratulations from a former Corpsman to an about to be. You have chosen, what I beleive, is the best rate in the Navy. Once you get out of school and join the fleet, just remember one thing: Take care of your Marines/Sailors and they will take care of you. It's an unspoken bond that any former corpsman can tell you about. It's alot of responsibility to alway try and be the voice of reason to some of them, but one that comes with lots of rewards. Again, Congrats on making it this far and God Bless and stay safe. HM3 (SW) former hug.gif |
