The whole "Do children in the U.S. have a right to health care paid for through your tax dollars?" thread got me thinking... Do you think that we should have to pay for Social Security out of our paychecks??? Most of the people paying it now will probably never see a dime of it. What do you guys think? |

Here's a decent read if you're interested in a lot of opinions on social security. www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=304718 |
| The thing that really ticks me off is that Social Security is suppose to be a Voluntary program but they force everyone to pay into it. We should have a choice in the matter but it's been taken away from us. Personally, I don't think it'll be around in 30 years when I'm ready to retire or if it is it won't be all that much. I'd rather put my money into stocks and bonds then into the Social Security system. |
| Social Security is a fraud. The people who voted for FDR went to their graves believing they'd been putting their nickels away in an account somewhere all their working lives. If they had been, the system would be perfectly solvent. The first problem was leaving the collection age at 65, which was the average life expectancy at the time the system came into being. Most people had little chance of ever collecting anything. In order for it to function on anything like the original plan, the retirement age would have to be something like 74 today. Additionally, putting SSI on the same tab was a disaster (whether you think there should be such a thing as SSI or not). Over the years, SS has turned out to be nothing but a slush fund from which shyster politicians buy the votes of the elderly and disabled. There are plenty of reasons for FDR to roast in hell, and Social Security is one of them. |

Its the biggest damned scam around. I'm an economist and I've read many reports where I'm looking at getting back 1% to 2% return on my "investment! What a goddam joke! 2% return! I could get 8% to 12% from my mutual fund; I'd be a millionare by my age of retirement. Same with Medicare, you basically have to be destitute to be able to collect. Yet, I'm FORCED to pay into it every month. Given the choice, I'd opt out of both of them and fend for myself, because lets face it, neither system will EVER benifit me. |
Vote Wedge in 08 and I will fix it. |
