I bought an EOTech 512 Holographic sight a month or so ago. When I put the batteries in it,  the reticles looked very picilated and grainy.. All the ads show a very sharply defined circle and a dot. Nice and crisp. like this.

So I sent it back and ordered another  one from a different vendor, since the first vendor was out of stock. The new one arrived today and it looks as shitty as the first one.

Am I mistaken in assuming that the reticle  should look like what  is in the advertisements?
Is anyone else getting defective sights? I find it hard to believe a company making sights that cost over $300  isn't doing any QC before they go out the door.

If the grainy reticle is what I'm supposed to be seeing, I'm not impressed at all. I've seen BSA red dots at 1/10th the cost that look better. than this thing.

Look thru the recticle, not at it. Yes, they are grainy, but adjust it for the lighting conditions correctly, and you will like it.

Yes, that's how it looks.

They may have a sharp reticle, but they don't do the same thing as the EOtech. Do said BSA red-dots overcome parallax? Notice with the EOTech, you don't have to exactly sight down the center of the rifle anymore to aim. You just need to be able to see the reticle. Its apparent 'position' in space doesn't change even when you move your head around. That's pretty f'n cool, in my book.

When you use it, use both eyes and look at your target, not the reticle.

The problem was, you were (A), looking at the reticle, and (B), most likely turned it up too high for the light conditions.

Mount it on your rifle, and IGNORE THE EOTECH.  With one eye looking THROUGH the Eotech, and BOTH eyes open, look at your target, not the reticle.

NOW your reticle will be in focus, as it focuses at the target plane, not up close.

And further, I am near sighted.  I wear glasses for driving, distance, but indoors, reading, watching TV, glasses are not necessary.

I have trouble focusing on the front sight if wearing my glasses, which I need to see targets at 50-300 yards.  Without my glasses, I can't see the target.

But the Eotech allows me to wear my glasses, and the reticle is in focus when I look at the target.

Nothing was wrong with the first Eotech you returned, and nothing is wrong with the one you have now.

Go outside and try it on your rifle.  Don't look at the reticle, look at various targets and move the reticle to cover your target.  It is just that simple.
