I'm getting ready to replace my ancient PC (PII-350) with a new Dell but I want to be able to "import" all of my Outlook Express email folders into the new system.

Does anyone know how to do this?

It is not as simple and finding the folder with the email folder files and copying them to the new system.  I tried that during my last upgrade.  OE just ignored the "old" files and created new ones with a slightly different name.  There's got to be a trick to this.

Any suggestions?

Yep, hit file then export, its saves it to a file then you can import it to your new one.  You can also get the file and send it to yourself as an attachment then when your new system is up and running open your email with your file in it.

I seem to remember trying to Export last time and it didn't work.  I could export to a text file but not to a format that would directly Import to the new system.   I'll try it again.

mhpoole - I'm thinking the same thing: emailing the most important ones to myself then downloading them from my ISP when th new system is up.  Probably a good backup.

Can you export to a CD drive and burn a disc?

CMOS,

I have done it before, but it seems when ever i tried with a whole new system it got all fubared.  The only thing im really concerned with is all the addresses, and that you can just send as a big file to yourself.  Other files I would consider burning them on a CD that seems to be the best way.

Folders in Outlook Express.  Keep the CD as a back-up in case I got a virus or bought a new computer.

Whatever you are trying to save.  Burn them to a CD and the import them once your new system is up and running

Try this.  I've done it several times before for relatives when they have bought new computers.  I usually burn the folder with .mbx files to cd, so that I have a backup in case I do anything stupid.

install Firebird.  Outlook express is a door way to the world.

I've done this too, and can vouch it works.  Just don't forget to export your Address Book, too.   Then import the file on the new system.  The process above doesn't copy your contacts.

what I do is create a folder on your desktop called backup, inside create additional folders for each seperate folder you wish to keep, then open outlook highlight all email in one folder at a time and right click then drag them to the folder you just created.  Export does not always work but this does.
