When someone replys to a thread you get an e-mail for every post I think. Every once in a while I will hit it and get a ton of e-mail the next day.

It's a terrible thing in the first place. It's only good if you expect a couple replies over a long period of time, otherwise, you'll go nuts with all the crap filling your inbox. Well, at least, that's how it is for me.
