Just completed a new build and the *%#*# floppy light stays on!  Tried to get around this by:  resetting cables, totally unplugging floppy and nothing works.  It's seems to be stuck on this drive.  Can not get any further into installing an operating system.   HELP!

It usually means your floppy cable is installed backwards.

Make sure the red paint (pin #1) is on the side closet to the power hookup on the floppy.

If you've stuck a floppy in the drive while the light is solid, you'll, it usually messes up the floppy disk you had in there.

Yep.  Flip over the ribbon cable.

I had to use one on my new build to install the RAID drivers during Windows installation. RAID arrays in personal pcs are pretty 2004, don't ya think?

That is not always the case with floppy drives. There should be a number 1 on the circuit board for verification.

Tried flipping the cable(and did flip the whole thing the bird) but not getting the light out.  Any, and ALL ideas please.  The floppy has a key slot up and down on its frame so I did turn the connector over.  Like I said, any and all ideas!  Also checked to see if I could plug the power cable flipped but it is keyed.  I edit after I read the posts and I guess I need to contact the M/B support.  Thanks but keep'm coming, that is if there is more than the cable!

Ya but the headers on the Mboards have a key for the floppy header to ensure you can't flip it there.
The ones that don't have keys are over 5-6 years old.

IF your still getting a solid light, your floppy drive is bad or your folppy controller on the Mboard is bad.

My newest machine at home doesn't even have a floppy drive.  The next one likely won't either.

ditto on the floppy cable...but for me it was when I had the power backwards (some drives will actually let you plug it in that way)

See above.  Bad floppy or controller if the cable has been flipped to test for that.

also make sure that the end with the twisted loop is the end you plug in to the drive...

Gave up tonight but will try floppy from old computer first thing in morning.  Did fine with my computer, an Asus P4S800D-E M/B and a 3.0 P4 but this board is a Soyo and maybe not as good as the Asus.
