OK the other post on a similiar topic has turned very personal.

Two same sex adults want to have a civil union performed by the captian of a boat or a justice of the peace in order to fromalise their relationship.  Is there a real problem with this?

I'd really like a discussion on this without a lot of personal attacks and foul langauge but anyway.  P.S I'm not gay, liberal or democratic and I don't even play one on TV....Flame away.

The only issue I have is taxes. I dont not think that gay couples deserve the tax benefits that a married couple gets. Married people get tax benefits so that it is more financially feasible to start a family and create new taxpayers. Gay couples will not bring the benfit of new taxpayers to society and thus do not deserve a tax break for their union. Other than that, I have no problem with it,

EVERYONE should have someone they can pass their stuff on to with out the .gov taking it.

Marriage is different.

I agree with you on inheritance taxes. Those are complete bullshit. Hopefully Bush and the Congress will completely eliminate them.

Exactly. If you want to protect personal property (and Lord knows, the .gov takes too much as it is!) then change the tax code. DON'T redefine marriage.

Civil Unions for everyone.  Marriage is a ceremony up to the individual churches to perform.

But think about how much of their two-earner income goes to support local interior designers.  And they have the benefit of not having children to pass their money to, so instead of millions of dollars being tied up in one family for many generations, they have to spend what they've got.

bingo.  You belong to a church that opposes the marriages fine.  You belong to a church that oks the marriages fine.  Just don't allow the gov't or churches from interfering with churches.
