For those interested in mounting a shotgun under the black rifle, read on: The LSS (Lightweight Shotgun System) is a 2.5 lbs., magazine fed, manually operated, shoulder fired, under-barrel, or standalone firearm, that fires all available 12 gauge munitions including breech and less than lethal. The LSS attaches to either M16A2 Rifle or M4 Carbine, and utilizes the host firearm sighting system. The LSS provides an integral stand-off device, and ambidextrous operation. http://www.cmore.com/pro.htm |

If this underbarrel shotgun is the one that was developed in conjunction with Colt firearms it is indeed cool. Awhile back I saw a very brief article in one of the gun magazines showing a lightweight under barrel shotgun that Colt was helping to design, one of the cooler things I remember is that it was designed to use a detachable 3 or 4 shot magazine. It was indeed a compact looking design, more compact than the Rem870 cutdown jobbers they put on the doorknocker M4s. Since there isn't a very good description of the shotgun nor is there a picture I will have to wait and see if this is the one I'm thinking of. If it is the one I'm thinking of it will probably be a restricted item because the barrel length looked under 18 inches. |
| Assault Weapons, 5th Edition, has a feature on Knight's RIS, in which there's a 12 gauge short barrel shotgun slung underneath an M4, I'll post a pic soon. In Black Hawk Down, it also mentioned a Delta operator carrying such a weapon, it however kept calling the M4 "CAR-15" while all other weapons were refered to by their proper model designation. |
